Giving a whole expansion to write to a guy who didn't do anything but write meh stories overfocusing on a character he absolutely fails to make people care about because of the amount of cliche they come with, examples being Zero, the aura blonde girl from the Save the Queen questline who is according to his writing a love interest for Cid and so on. It's a little worrying to me that the only game he mentioned he enjoyed recently is Zelda: Echos of Wisdom because he says "Wow, that's amazing', in terms of how they used resources, how they made it, and the game design."
He's talking here about how the game reused assets and was able to create a fun experience which works for Zelda perhaps but it's a little worrying that there are amazing story games released this very year and the past couple of years and he's not mentioning he's played them yet you know you'd think he would mention a story game he's played considering the big draw for FF14 is the story. This is the part that kills me. There's so much in DT that is just so juicy and ripe you could do something incredible with it. From Wuk having the core concept that could lead to her being a well of character development to the political tension that could come from an ending where the new leader of the country is the least popular choice with no actual experience.

Most of the trials were retarded. I don't know who the retard that decided it was good design to make you need EVERY FUCKING TOKEN to win the contest, but that alone killed the concept.

The thing that pisses me off the most about the writing in Dawntrail is that Wuk Lamat is absolutely NOT suitable to be a king.
She didn't even know the most basic aspects of how her country works. One of the first quests in the game has her reveal that she doesn't know how goods are transported within her country via alpaca, which is the kind of basic knowledge a child should know, let alone a princess.
In the bird village, the amount of idiocy and selfishness she shows is absurd. She sees some people starving to death, and instead of trying to solve the issue she just keeps whining that she wants them to throw a big party for her to enjoy. Of course, by pure random coincidence it happens that this magically solves the problem, which is supposed to show that she's a good leader because the writers are retarded.

She is so stupid, short sighted, and incompetent, that if a person like that were to ever be in control of a real country I'm confident that the economy would collapse within one year. And the entire plot of Dawntrail is focused around getting this worthless retard established as king.

My best guess is Calyx wants to see Azem shit in action so he can try to track it down rather then try to fight for ours. I'm guessing we'll get a primal necron for the trial boss unless he has another robot up his sleeves.
For the lead in to next expansion I'm guessing we'll be chasing him down, hopefully with Sphene at our side. I'd like the arcadion crew too to help fill out a roster that doesn't require the scions, but that's a bit of a stretch since there's no way arcadion will be MSQ required.
They don't need to permanently retire the scions or anything, but I think giving them a break could be good for some, especially the twins. They could have their growth spurt offscreen that way.

When I was working on getting the High Roller title before DT came out I naturally had to do quite a bit of chocobo racing. At first I found the whole breeding thing very complicated, but once I got the hang of it I ended up having a lot of fun. Why did she do it?

Dawntrail, story wise, can be described in one word; indecisive.
The overall experience having no clear sense of identity that really sets it apart, in a positive way, from previous expansions. Since most of what it does, was done better already.
On one hand, it's job is to set up the new series of adventures going forward, but it absolutely refuses to do anything new to make that captivating.
It comes across as it going out of it's way to be non-offensive and avoiding being contentious, to the point it circles around, stumbling at every possible step and becomes so bland it is nauseating.
To it's credit, the post-launch story is a bit better, but we'll see where it goes.

That isn't even getting into the gameplay issues, technical aspects, and other problems with most the content outside of the 8-man raids which have been released. It is bewildering how so much of it is so fucked.

The MSQ just isn't good, Tural as a setting sounds cool but when you enter you realize it has nothing to it and there's no conflicts because everything has been solved, the traders are all nice honest guys for example.
The Wuk focus in the MSQ hurt it a lot, sure the MC naturally gets more focus issue is Wuk just isn't interesting or strong enough of a character to carry the expansion, also hurts that the rest of the cast feels like an actual afterthought Wuk never interacts with outside of Erenville at the very end.

Anyone else excited for the deep dungeon?

The worst written, most overbearing, one-note and pointless character in FF history forced on the player and the story to its detriment combined with baffling grating tranny voice making it ultimately totally and utterly unbearable. Story was nothing new and the themes were much more simple and childish than previous expansions. "War bad, peace good, racial diversity good, everyone must live in constant harmony". The player and player character was made into a tertiary whipping boy constantly being reminded who he serves (right after saving the universe at great personal cost), NPC's treating the position as Lamat's slave/stooge as more impressive than being the champion of Eorzea.

No meaningful interactions with the Scions apart from Krile, which was a barebones as could possibly be to make room for more Lamat. There was an interesting story about Krile's origins and her remarkable destiny and it was all discovered and solved within one zone and with zero room or time to have any impact. DT was the perfect moment to shake up the bag and maybe have some Scions leave for good (or at least for several expansions so that an eventual reunion could feel like the return of an old friend) but it introduced no characters which could serve as replacements with the exception of Sphene, so therefore it was too scared to let go of the established characters and instead had them all tag along to remind you that they were still there.

Zero real chances taken, tunnel vision on forcing the tranny hrothgar, oversimplified childish story (a stark juxtaposition to the religious political dogma of HW or the themes of death, irreversible loss and acceptance of ShB and EW) left players feeling talked down to. Tuliyolai having no real internal conflict (it was an solved by peace-daddy 20 years ago) felt too saccharine and unreal, like the whole country was a setting from Carebears where the inexplicably evil meanie had to be stopped from stealing all the rainbows.

Because Yoshi P's (not Square Enix) entire goal is to cut corners as much as possible to maximize money saved. ALL Yoshi P wants to do is use as little money and resources on the game as possible while trying to maximize proft with the least amount of money and effort spent. He can't even be assed to pay for full-voice acting even just the MSQ, which is why you get only super importants scenes voices and everything else NOT voiced. He's just looking at cutscenes going "okay we'll spend some money to have this one voice acted, and these cutscenes we won't have voiced". He doesn't care at all about investing into this game, if he could have it his way he would literally put the game in maintenance mode and tell every player to just "play other games" while keeping their subs active for literally ZERO content and him and his dev team would just go on permanent paid vacation, all the while he looks good to his corporate overlords for managing to keep the game profitable with the least amount of spending back on it.
