Oh no... no no no no steam bros..... we're literally just sheeple who have more money than sense. Jesus christ. And we make fun of fortnite kiddies who buy skins for a game they like and actively play???? N-n-n-no... this can't be true.....

>>714941825 (OP)I mean, he's right. I have so many games I haven't even installed
No shit. Steam is more about coomlecting games like they're Pokemon instead of actually playing vidya
>>714941825 (OP)you sound mad that we have all the games we could want
>>714941825 (OP)What the fuck's a steam expert?
>>714941825 (OP)I dont understand. Ive played every game I bought on steam. I might not have always liked the game, and sometimes I shelve it after playing a short period of time. But most games I play for at least several hours. I might not always beat every game but I get partially through it.
What games do people not play?
I could understand people getting $1 codes for a bunch of garbage humble bundle shovelware, but that cant really be a significant factor especially since that site hasnt been good in like 10 to 15 years.
Have any of you guys bought games and just never played them? Is it a compulsion to buy stuff on sales and you say 'i will play it later' but dont?
>>714941825 (OP)Good Morning Sir ! I hope all Indians fucking die
Yes Tim. I would rather pay thousands of dollars for games that I'm never going to play, than accept all the games in the universe for free on Epic Games Store. Thanks for asking, even though you probably already knew that.
>>714942106He's a consultant for devs. He knows more about the platform than anyone else outside of Valve.
>>714942028if you wanted them you'd play them fuck bag.
You tards are just consumerist addicts buying whatever trash goes on sales for 30-70%
>>714941825 (OP)>irresponsiblyHow do they define that?
I buy things on big sales from time to time that sit in my backlog. How is that irresponsible?
So like Netflix where you have a heap of content but nobody is going to watch it all.
>>714941825 (OP)And then there's me: Consumer overlords. Only pirate games I will be certain I will finish. Those faggots in their office chairs don't like me very much haha
>>714941825 (OP)>get showered with games on a massive discount>scoop up the deals but don't have time to play all the games>backlog keeps expandingsounds like a good problem to have
I've bought a ton of games i've already played on other platforms or that i've pirated and haven't bothered firing up again.
Relatively little that i'll never actually play though.
>>714941825 (OP)I always laugh at idiots going crazy during the sales. They see game for 4 bucks and they buy, even though they don't plan on playing it. You are the same as your parents, picking something up because "It was a good deal". I have played 99% of the games in my Library. I don't frivolously spend my money on stupid shit just because it was cheap.
>>714941825 (OP)>dude they have stuff to do and can't play video gamesThis isn't the own you think it is.
I buy games on sale for 90% off that I know are good and that I might play some day if I feel like it, often years go by before that day comes.

>>714941825 (OP)Having a collection is good though.
>>714941825 (OP)What kind of title is "Steam Expert"?
Fuck off
He's not wrong. My Steam library has 177 games and I've beaten 18 of them. Main issue is my laptop being unable to play anything made after 2012 with at least medium graphics at 60+ FPS and the other is that I kept buying shit for $5 for a hypothetical future gaming PC that probably won't be mine as long as this tariff shit is in effect.
The reason OP is mad is because hes an unironic epic shill and wishes that people spend money on EGS.
>>714942323Not him but most of the games I buy I do eventually play, it just takes months if not years to get to them because I already have other games in the way. The majority of games I eventually want to play I just keep in my wishlist though.
>>714943169Shhh, you're not supposed to state the obvious, now they're going to sperg out.

>B-but it's le license! And? It's convenient. Now go on. List the games that were revoked that nobody cares about.
I also have a gog, physical media, and offline storage with me too.
I plan on playing them some day
>>714942272it's more like that Epic is a worse experience for the customer than Steam. Apart from the awful interface and lack of features compared to Steam the biggest and most hilarous problem is pricing.
Developers pay less platform fees on Epic, so what are they doing with the money? They just charge the same price as on Steam and pocket the difference. Why the fuck should a customer care about other platforms then?
>The trick is to provide a top of the industry experience and sell products often at record low prices so people will spend money on your platform.
Gee what a master manipulation! If only everyone made an attempt to provide good service.

>>714941825 (OP)>buy game for a buck, dirt cheap in some bundle, or get it for free>never get around to playing itOh nooooo?! Consolesisters paying $80+tip for worse games, whatever shall I do?!

>>714944594EGS has no chat
I actually just buy games one at a time once theyโre in discount and after reviewing them carefully and thinking critically about whether Iโd actually enjoy them.
>>714944996neither you or me uses steam chat when Discord exists and permeates everything. Stop being a disingenuous faggot.
>>714944594Most Fortnite kids are buying their games exclusively through EGS, the only people still buying from Steam are boomers, everyone else has moved on to the better storefront. Epic Games has effectively captured the gen alpha and most of the zoomer demographics. Steam will die out as the people who use it get older while Epic will become the dominant storefront in the coming years. Itโs over for steamies, kek
>>714944996>>714945114Also Steam is so popular I use it to coordinate before me and a bud play games on Epic. They should probably have a chat system at this point but I assume you could friend eachother in Fortnite and then chat in the game.

>>714945162Steam was useful when discord didnt exist and the only way to post pictures was through imgur.
If anything such outdated chatting features are only useful on PlayStation where you can't access third chats conveniently instantly
>>714942152Most people don't play even half of their libraries for several reasons: either you buy a bundle and only wanted 1 or 2 of the games (but the bundle was cheap enough for it to be worth it), or you bought a game but your life gets busy and have no time for the game, or buy a game on sale "to play later" and lose interest, or you buy a game you know is going to be delisted from steam "just in case I want to play it later on", you might buy a game that you already played on a different platform just to support the devs, etc.
I have a bit more than 1000 games on steam but have only played a bit less than 600 of those. Most of the non played ones are one of the cases above, mostly the bundle case.
>>714942310>He's a consultant for devsso a leech, got it
>>714941825 (OP)>PC GAMING...........................

They're counting those Humble Bundles where people used to pay 99 cents for a AAA game and also got a mountain of shovelware indie garbage. Yeah nobody plays Indie shovelware garbage or buys it on its own, as Tim Sweeny has found when he tried to moneyhat Indie Kickstarter devs only to find out no one buys their games. lmao that's the reason they tried to crowdfund funding their shovelware shit, no publisher would foot the bill.
>>714945761>he tried to moneyhat Indie Kickstarter devsRemedy is an indie kickstarter dev?
I buy games on sale that i will play in the future. Games that i buy outright, i always play. Games in bundles, i only maybe get to. For that reason I've only played about 30 percent of my steam library, but that's because there is a load of slop from bundles that were giving me deal on games that i want as long as i got a bunch of shitty games with it.

You waste money on shit you'll never play and justify it in your mind in a fanciful and faggy "Oooooh, one day!"
We. Are not. The Same.
>>714942323I pirate games first sinking a few hundred hours, then I buy them legit when they're 50 or 80% off to support the developers if I feel like the game was worthy of my time.

Also under Federal law you always own the license to your games, so even if you lose access you get the legal right to pirate it back.
>>714941825 (OP)I will buy cheap games I might play later because it's easier than trying to find a not 0 seed torrent. If I don't play them oh well, it was the same as the cost of a drink at a coffee shop.
>>714946629>cost of a drink at a coffee shop.Stop eating avocado toast

>>714942152If it's cheap and I might play it I will buy it. Then sometimes I don't play it. This has never once effected my financial outlook at all so who cares.
>>714946696That's literally not true. On a 7 day rental, you could probably beat most SNES games in that time. Only with JRPGs did you really need to rent a game for longer than that, and you'd still only spend $10 after two weeks.
>>714942578No matter what retards tell you saving 4 bucks here and there has almost no effect on your financial future and almost all your money comes from before tax retirement savings anyway.
>>714946846Are you dumb? As a kid, it was never about "beating" a game. I would turn on and play Sonic the Hedgehog 2 all the time. I beat the game over 100 times. I even got a cheat code book that unlocked debug mode and let me basically make my own levels and challenges while also getting super sonic for free. How would that be possible from renting the game?
Renting games was always worse than owning them because as a kid you did not have a lot of video games and played the good ones way more than once. The most exciting thing about renting games was getting to try certain games simply because you couldn't afford them. If I can afford them, why the fuck would I want to rent them?
Valve takes me back to my PS1 and PS2 days, yeah.
I bet Switchbros can also get the same feel.
Sony and Xbros get the shaft as always.

>>714941825 (OP)No they just don't have access to the entire data set. Yes this is part of it but I as a consumer have bought tons of games I never touched on steam on sale.
Why? Because I played them pirated ages ago.
I have about 50 Visual Novels in my library on Steam and I never touched a single one. Why? Because I'm giving money to the developers and collecting at the same time. I don't need to replay old Visual novels I played as a Teen.
I will however buy it on Steam and I will buy some small trinket in Japan.
I don't really care about playing To Heart. But as soon as it went on sale I bought it. Aquaplus deserves the money. Unlike western companies it's still the same people working there after 25 years.
I played every single Age of Empires and C&C game like a madman when I was a kid, I don't need to play them again except for skirmish here and there yet I own them all on Steam.
Honestly the biggest problem I have as a consumer is the fact that I can't reward the people that made my youth better, the developers of the old games.
Every single Western Studio is a Corposlop Ship of Theseum only there in name as a Corpo Licence holder.
At least with Japanese studios I know that I'm giving money to the same people.

You idiots are still wasting a fuck ton of money over NOTHING
So, from my understanding, Steam does its job so well when it comes to platform services and prices, that people end up buying more games that they need to. In any case, that doesnt really sounds like a problem. I'd rather have more games available, than none at all. I mostly care about having a variety; I dont see my backlog as something that needs to be completed 100%.
Anyways, I bought Age of Empires but I ended up refunding it because I find its gameplay tedious (Im a BW and C&C guy) so I have 11 euros to spend in my steam wallet. Give me some good recommendations. Action games, fps, rts, are my taste

>>714941825 (OP)>500 games>25% of them never openedYup.
I am part of this statistic, for me there are 2 reasons:
- I am from a poorfag family and I grew up playing mostly games my older brother pirated. When I finally had disposable income of my own in my early 20s I mostly bought games I had already played previously, since they were dirt cheap old-ass games and I KNEW I liked them. Having convienient access over fucking around with ISOs was something I was happy to pay for. For this reason my Steam profile is littered with games which seemingly have 0 hours of playtime, since I already played them for 100s of hours before.
- As it turns out, the amount of free time one has is inversely proportional to the disposable income. Once my studies were over I entered employment, got married and had 2 kids. I WISH I had the time to play the (actually) unplayed games in my library, but I'm lucky to get 1 hour of personal time a day and I still end up squandering that on /v/

Yeah, people buy games they're not gonna buy
The caveat this clown sidesteps is: they do it on massive discounts
It is no different than buying extra food or in bulk when they have an incredibly low price. Are you going to eat it all this week? Well no, but if you buy it now you save money in the long run.
That is why peoples backlogs are large, because they think "yo that's the cheapest this has ever been, I want to play it some day so I'll buy it now to ensure I get a good deal"
Can it potentially be cheaper if they wait? Sure. But it can also not be, that's a gamble. Just look at steam right now, the sales they put on in recent years are not even their historic lows, and if it's not equivalent to the historic low I'm not buying it. Who would buy from the kind of extreme jewishness that has sold a thing to everyone for 2 bucks but is now trying to charge you 5 for it? Now you're left sitting waiting for it to go on sale for the correct price if you want to play it now.
I can count on one hand probably games I've bought at full price.
Also bundle value means that when buying a bundle for 1-2 games, you end up getting 6+ other games you have no interest in but still count as a sale.

>>714941825 (OP)As opposed to people who collect physical games, pay way more, have to store and maintain them, and STILL don't play them.

>>714958862>It's not an "incredible value" if you never even touch it.They have 50-70 years to still play it, are you retarded?
See what happens when you only buy what you play immediately is that whenever you get bored, you have to buy a game you have the itch for and feel like playing. And you are beholden to whatever the price is at that time. This is the problem with steam if you did this game coelcting on GOG games you would OWN the installers forever. Steam is happy to sell you trash full of DRM and the game getting killed.
I think the Carmageddon TDR on steam is basically a bricked impossible to play, I think it only works on windows XP max and steam can not be installed on XP in 2025.
Meanwhile Carmageddon TDR on GOG works (!!!!) because they patched it and you can use the installer on whatever you want since there is no steam DRM and you can use them on XP or win 98 etc.

Since we are not going to announce what's on sale, you'll need to regularly check or you might miss out on a deep discount for a game you want. Aren't you AFRAID OF MISSING OUT?
Also you better buy the other things that go on flash sale. All your friends might start playing it and YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS OUT and be the only sucker who payed full price.

Steam simply counts the game time to the nano second even if the window is closed.
>Maybe you shouldn't STEAMIES everyone! This is why people hate you. You are corporate dick suckers!
>>714968668>By the way, no refunds until the EU literally forced us to implement them (and whoops our sales tactic vanished after that)Never forget! Steam is shit!
>>714969043epic is a soulless cashgrab
>>714969013i can understand for old games honestly
also in 2020 i was using a i5 (when i played it)
dunno if its related to being bricked or not
dont really need the pirate version for now so i'll worry when i want to replay it
its not like i didn't burned TDR at release before high school
>>714969261>>714969198epic gives out games for free
steam doesn't
Not my problem, I only pirate and Play games that were made before Steam existed anyways.
>>714942152>Is it a compulsion to buy stuff on sales and you say 'i will play it later' but dont?More of an addiction, but yes
>>714969306>steam doesn'tYes, they do.
>>714969238>Steam simply counts the game time to the nano secondWrong, that is just for automatic refunds. If you're over 2 hours, someone looks at the refund request instead of it being automatic. You are lying about abusing the system
>>714968963>the 'other' reasonI tried something like that did not work.
Played for over 2h boom. Get fucked!
>Ubisoft is such fucking bullshitAnd from that day on I refused to buy anything ubisoft.
>Ubisoft is such fucking bullshitAnd steam does nothing to protect you from it. Unlike GOG!
>>714969327but i do play them later
>>714949237lol, lmao, me and my brother have been using a single Steam account since Steam's inception. One of us just stays in offline mode.
>>714969368> If you're over 2 hours, someone looks at the refund request instead of it being automatic.that didn't happen to me with battlefield 2042
>game worked on a free weekend. play 20 hours>buy it a few weeks ago on sale>auto-refund denied because 20 hours (i couldn't even run the game anymore)
>>714969306years ago he bought entire games to be exclusive
now the best he can do is charge the developers and publishers nothing
the money is drying up, the store is bleeding tens of millions a year and timmy is desperate
>>714969368>WrongIt says 2h in steam and it refused because over 2h. Go lie somewhere else.
I swear they count the nano seconds of play time even if the game is closed and you are at the desktop!
isn't GoG better because you can download their offline installers and actually OWN the game you bought?
>You will own a videogame and you will be unhappy
>>714942152>Have any of you guys bought games and just never played them? Is it a compulsion to buy stuff on sales and you say 'i will play it later' but dont? There are games in my backlog that've been there for several years untouched, but I wouldn't say I'm typical because I always get around to things eventually, even if it takes me several years. I don't understand the impatience of some people, you have fucking decades and decades to live.
>>714969491>It says 2h in steamFor automatic refunds. You have never used the refund system in your life
Keep concern trolling
>>714945126Dont let this anon know that thanks to Microjeet incompetence, the age of the penguin is dawning fast, and Timmy boy will have to either ape proton and make a shittier version of it, or make EGS and Fortnite linux compatible to keep his game store running. Other than the unreal slop 5 engine, Timmy has nothing else going on.
>>714969514>isn't GoG better because you can download their offline installers and actually OWN the game you bought?YES.
Funny how these threads now literally are payed steam shills fighting payed EGS shills.
WTF happened to /v/ ?
If you cannot show me a list of all of the games you've finished this year then I don't care what you think about the concept of a backlog
>>714969569>WTF happened to /v/ ?i guess it's mostly infected by pajeets shilling one thing while attacking another...

>>714969514offline installers are completely irrelevant
if you give a shit about that you can go and crack your steam copy and pack it into an archive for the same result
>>714969514In terms of ownership and preservation, yes. In terms of user experience, no.
I buy from both steam and gog, and I want gog to keep existing as a store. Egs and the rest bullshit stores can shut down for all l care.
>>714969598I don't have it in a nice easy steam list

Lots of broke niggers in this thread seething that other people can afford to throw pennies at stuff they'll get around to later. Smells brown.
>>714970031>How is Mirror of Fate?if you like castlevania. go for it. there isn't much bullshit . dont expect a big game anyway feels like a dlc
>>714970072fuck you nigger i hate opening EGS whenever i boot unreal
I used to have pirated copies of games. I finished all of them.
I lost these copies in a fire.
During COVID lockdown friend got me into trying GOG because there was a bundle with all these crpg I lost. I bought it so we could play together.
I still have them, saved them on cloud and on disk, burned them into CDs too for old time's sake but haven't played them since then.
Is that a bad thing?
Games:
>Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, Planescape Torment, Icewind Dale 1 & 2 and Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2
>>714970054bosses are easier than trash, remember that

>>714941825 (OP)i just need to quit my job and dedicate all my time to clearing my backlog
I have 80 games on Steam currently. In a few years I'll have about 120 or so, I'd imagine. Those are realistic numbers imo.
I try to buy games that I think will have a lot of replayability, and I keep a rotation of like 10 or so games that I really want to grind to high hours played, before shifting some out for newer ones & so on.
>>714970190Many such cases in Soulslikes
>field enemies: dude just put like 10 of them here in a tiny alley and they're all as hard as minibosses>bosses: dude just put one guy you can easily dodge in this wide open arena
>>714970307If it works for you, that's great. Personally, 10 games at once would be way too many for me and I would inevitably drop most of them
Nowadays I only allow myself to play 2 games at once, and only put a new one in the rotation when I finish another one
