if you like super autism simulator turn based combat with no plot, siralim ultimate. Skip the other 3 games, the series is just evolutions on the same idea with no plot.
if you want an FF Tactics/FFTA-like with a decent twist, Fae Tactics limits each character to one action of each type equipped (one attack, one ally action, one self action, etc). Some units are nameless summons with a set ability loadout, some units are characters you can equip and change up. It leans hard into "limitations breed creativity" and succeeds for it. Not a perfect game, but good at what it does enough to overlook minor flaws. It would've been amazing on GBA or DS.

you know Company of Heroes is my favorite RTS ever, and the sequel aint half bad either

its not as simulation heavy as Men of War, but more simulationy than most RTS, while keeping a degree of fantasy

tanks have front and rear armor and are obviously more vulnerable from the rear, but you dont have to manage shit like ammo storage

stuff like suppression is an actual mechanic in the game rather than an emergent characteristic from the fact machine guns deal a shitton of damage

Yeah. Skill Resetters are your friend around there, because having skill points to spend before and after unlocking a new tier of monster skills is very different.
There is a mechanic you've not yet encountered which adds a new passive and tweaks the stat distribution on any given monster, accessed via what is initially a fairly rare consumable. as well as better items adding more build diversity later.

Don't worry too much about grinding to overlevel stuff. Look at weaknesses instead - the goblins almost universally are weak to physical, for instance. Having more guys you can call on to change up your team is more satisfying than trying to overlevel stuff. Look for synergy as much as you look for a purely good damage number, since the scoring system rewards you for buffing up and obliterating things.

As for the egg farming, treat the champions like puzzle battles, you can always go back to the tower and rebattle them to try to get the guaranteed egg from them. For other mons, it's something you should get as you progress an area rather than trying to immediately catch the new 'mon as soon as you hit a new area. Letting them drop over time and only TRYING to farm if you really feel the need is better than driving yourself mad immediately trying to grind them.

There's the infinite arena that opens later which lets you get materials and such.

Skill Potions are once per monster and give +1 skill point forever, use them wisely since they're rare at first.

The game will open up more as you progress in the "story" and you should get more options generally for acquiring stuff.

I don't think there will be a haul for me this time. I'm just not seeing games i like much anymore. Gaming has gotten worse. Everything that is niche is gone. Despite there being an abundance of things to play, there's still nothing i want to play. Maybe if the stealth genre didn't drop off the map the moment Hideo Kojima decided to quit it then things might be better. See because it might have inspired games like Splinter Cell to happen again. The best games came out of the competition in triple A back in the early 2000s. That's when it was less financial incentive driven and giving players what they wanted, rather than what an investor board room wants. When developers were copy cats it usually because they were trying to make the best game possible. I don't really see it the same as what Dark Souls did to the industry, because it ended up being a safe financial choice for most devs.

I am maybe 10% in at this time, but I know this is a game I will 100% in the end. Some might say it's "baby's first Zelda", but I think it's the perfect combination of "cute" with actual stakes (i.e. monsters can kick your ass) so you can about your character instead of playing SLOPPA style.

It's very lean in the storytelling department yes, in line with the other # entries of smt. Its most egregious flaw is the execution of the split between creation and vengeance routes. Many things in the vengeance route dont make a lot of sense without playing creation beforehand.
But the changes to the open world and gameplay content are so minor between the 2 people seem to burn out after their first run.

I bought the game a few months ago so I have nothing to compare it to. I'll say that it kept me entertained for the first loop. Now I have to do the second loop of defeating the bosses and it's a lot more "meh". Not that I hate it, but I'll get around to it eventually after other games.

Same, I was too intrigued to pass it up on release day. It's pretty unique. It wouldn't be a good substitute for something like Princess Maker or Volcano Princess, it does its' own thing. The only time it has even somewhat frustrated me is the element of randomness. You only have minor control over what events you might get every time the season changes in game. You pick from one of several options, and from there it picks from a pool of what option you choose. There is also a dice roll mechanic for some choices that can be influenced by your stats, and traits. There is a garden where you'll grow mushrooms that help you gain stat points and traits, these carry over across your playthroughs. You can make changes to the garden between playthroughs, growing different shrooms or placing items. It's a charming game, pretty fresh too.
