I started using arcade sticks a year ago and I recommend them for the fun factor. I just bought a new one with Sanwa parts, which cost around $160, which is a high price, but it's something I highly recommend for anyone who plays old games, arcade games, etc., because the arcade stick makes the experience much more visceral.
The only problem is that not all 2D games are good to play on an arcade stick. When it comes to games that require the use of "modifier" buttons, such as holding R or L and pressing another button at the same time, I think normal controllers are much better.
