You need to understand the game mechanic more.
1. Most important point of the race is the last spurt, where your girl will aim for her maximum speed, this is affected by acceleration, velocity, stamina remaining, etc.
2. Pace chaser is efficient because of their positioning, timing and many other thing, HOWEVER they have the worst stamina coefficient compared to other, so if you don't understand how many stamina you need for a race, pace chaser might be a downfall for you instead.
3. In career mode, you get a hidden status buff, this is the reason why pace chaser is good in career mode, you benefited from the advantage of pace chaser without needing to take into account the preparation needed to actually make it works.
