Yes. Matthew's videos are still in a category of their own and have helped me hone my own writing. Even though his game doesn't really fit my tastes I will still buy it to support Matthew cause he's given the public so much with his videos yet he's still insanely underappreciated

yea, need to train my brain anyway, so what could be better for that than a Zacklike
that said, I'm not sure how to feel about the fact that he publishes the game under his youtube moniker. feel like he could've promoted the game on his youtube but not make his studio name matthewmatosis and the trailer narrated by his voice. that's too much "ah, yea that youtuber" for me when the game itself (not the marketing ofc) would ideally be disconnected from all that.

So, what, developer intent doesn't matter and indies should just make whatever is most commercially viable?
Let the man practice his programming and gain a foundation. Now his next game can be more complex and he won't be tied down by a third party like YoYo Games/Opera/the CCP.

it's not important RIGHT NOW
but if you understand Matt's kind of autism, you'll understand why.
as time passes, the past becomes more and more compressed in people's minds. mozart, chopin and satie are all considered classical music, right? but none of them were even alive at the same time.
so from Matt's perspective, if it was the year 2130, and someone would go back ans try out some classic Gameboy games, then it wouldn't actually matter to them whether it was released in 1998 or 2025 because it was so long ago that they came out within the same era. a person in 2130 wouldn't know the feeling of "oh, they stopped making game boy games in 2000 though", it wouldn't mean anything to them. and then if we look at it from the year 3000 then they may as well have been released on the same day.

Put on hold, turns out making a Metroidvania with only 2 people is pretty hard.
It makes sense to release something smaller first anyways, since it means he gains better fundamentals on developing/releasing a game and Mitosis has more time to work on art.

He's really fond of Resurrection. There was also a really fun Halloween stream where he played through Castlevania Bloodlines and Ghouls & Ghosts back to back, finishing with Rocket Knight Adventures.
I think he was getting a bit tipsy during it, because there are some good rants about cameras and Wonderful 101 being way better than anyone will believe.

I thoroughly enjoy all of matts stuff and and find myself agreeing with almost all of his opinions

however i will never understand his autism for wonderful 101. its just pretty pretty good. a solid 8.5/10 i mean yeah the presentation and cutscenes and tone and character of the game are all ace

but the combat never really felt like anything that special to me. I think the gimmick of drawing to form the proper weapon for a situation is neat but i dont think it adds much to the game in terms of making the combat more satisfying, and the drawing can actually be kind of frustrating at times

I think everyone just has that one game that they really fucking love, but at least Matthew is able to explain why.
It's not a game I like too much, but when you consider some of the points he's made about cameras and action games and how they control, it starts to click why he fancies W101 so much.
It's clearly a very well thought out game and has a ton of charm.

The Mega Drive game is a port of Ghouls 'n Ghosts, the 1988 sequel.
The original is Ghosts 'n Goblins from 1985. It got a shitty NES port.
The MD port of Ghouls is actually good, Yuji Naka ported it himself since he liked the game so much.

The first two games were arcade originals. Super Ghouls is the 3rd game, which was released only on SNES. All 3 are distinct games.

monospace means that the letters are all the same width, which to me seems to be the problem with the font he chose.
it's really not that bad of a logo, i really wouldn't get too up in arms over it, but it seems like an obvious thing that i would've tried if i were him.
the 'pop' that the different sized letters have has an obvious appeal from an eyecatch perspective, as well.

Did Matt ever give his thoughts on Odyssey? IIRC he's said he's mixed/negative on MGSV for the obvious reasons.

Odyssey I'm assuming he really liked considering everything he said in his 3D Mario reviews.

Can't wait for his game to be shit so he and his shit takes can be forgotten by everyone.
>Contextual button interractions bad
>99% of the highest rated games(some by himself) has tons of contextual button interractions
Holy pseudo intellectualism

Odyssey feels like the most baby esque 3d Mario, and it isn't even close. I am shocked more people don't have that opinion.

Been years since I played it, doesn't it have by far the least amount of platforming of any 3d mario? You're just running around massive open terrain mostly, and the jumps that are there you can't really fuck up.

Movement good. Exploring 3D levels and focus on platforming good.
