What? No. The premise is that Ancient Aliens are manipulating Final Fantasy worlds to generate light, but darkness keeps showing up so they send Jack to fix things and reset time when he either fails or light fades. During one of the loops, Jack and Astos (dark elf guy) decide they need to stop the ancient aliens from interfering with the world, but before they can succeed it gets reset again and only Astos remembers. He leads Jack into finishing his plan, which is developing Chaos (a third power like light and darkness), who kicks ass so hard they abandon FF1 world. He then loops repeatedly until he gets just the right set of circumstances that lead to the loop you play as in FF1, all so that someone strong enough can eradicate the darkness in the world, which requires Jack to be defeated at full power without holding back.
