>>715592827The one thing I'll give you with this controller is the HE sticks (not the triggers so those will eventually wear down and break). However as a reproduction controller it's a complete disappointment:
>face buttons are mechanical rather than membrane, which you might prefer but is totally inaccurate + difficult to repair since parts are now a two-piece set>no pressure buttons, which sure this doesn't matter on an actual Xbone/SeX, but as a repro you can't use it with Xemu for a totally authentic experience since some games will just straight up not work>small complaint but the original S controller had a green finish to the black color, this one is straight black and totally misses the subtlety of the original controller's colorAll that being said if you're planning on using this as a regular controller it's definitely better than the standard Series controller for the HE sticks, but is it worth sacrificing wireless for HE? Granted that's the sacrifice you'll make with pretty much any third party controller thanks to Microdick's greedy licensing policy.

>>715596675>but is it worth sacrificing wireless for HE?I think so, the cable is long enough to comfortably reach to my bed or my couch and charging my wireless 360 controller mid game was always annoying.
My biggest concern is actually the face buttons sticking as that's what happened to my Xbone controller.
This one wasn't overly expensive, feels good in the hands, the B&W buttons are cool and the HE sticks as you mentioned are very nice to have.
>>715595032Proud Xbox owner here. The controller is comfortable but to be honest it's really not that great. Literally every single button is loud as fuck which makes it impossible not to wake anybody up while I'm playing in the living room, and the bulging face buttons dig into my thumb far too painfully to my liking. The sticks are also far too loose right out the box (I just bought one brand new last month) and also I can't stand potentiometers.
Other than that the triggers are EXTREMELY comfortable (unlike DualSense, whose edges dig into my fingers) and probably the best ones I've used, I also love the impulse effect. It's a good "standard" controller but certainly not ideal.

>Xbox Elite S2
My oldest currently in use gamepad, case on the right. Served me well, though I probably need to see about fixing the L1 which is beginning to not react as it should and get another left stick cap standard height; I thankfully replaced the one that frayed the top after years and years with the closest included concave stick top so its fine, but still it would be nice to get some upgrades. S2 Elite is by far the best Xbox gamepad around - 4 paddles, included battery etc. I also have the old PC Xbox USB Receiver dongle (its the old flat, fat version rather than the Win10 second revision but it works just fine). The only downsides are those of all Xbox - no gyro etc. Aside from that, its fantastic and has been a reliable gamepad all this time; I've had it pretty much since it came out. Before than I had an Elite S1 which I sold, and an Xbox 360 "Silver Edition" swappable DPad edition
>Nintendo Switch Pro
I use this for Nintendo emulation primarily, WiiU and Switch, sometimes older systems. Doesn't have analog triggers and adds Gyro but otherwise works similarly to Xbox (lacking Elite S2 features of course). However unlike Xbox it has no built in XInput support so if using it for anything except emulators (which usually have built in driver support), I need to use SteamInput to configure it which is pretty much the easiest way; Steam can also account for reversing the X and Y labeling vs how Xbox does it.

On the left side in its case, is the PlayStation answer to the Xbox Elite S2 - the DualSense Edge. Has all the benefits of basic DualSense including touchpad, mic, gyro and best haptics of any controller to date. Edge adds rear paddles (2x at a time, but they give you 4) swappable stick mechanism as well as the tops, and more. Needs drivers / SteamInput but the most comfortable symmetrical stick layout + comprhensive features.

Despite what every chinkoid knockoff claims, Hall Effect or TMR or whatever they're claiming now does not mean its perfect - it has exactly one potential improvement over potentiometers regarding drift. It still needs to be a decent HE/TMR mechanism or it will be an inaccurate, non-responsive piece of crap. its just like HE switches for keyboards, if they're not made well and have good sensors to back them up, good feel, good software to make use of them etc.. they're not going to be much of an advantage over plain ol MX switches 90% of the time.

>>715601445>TMR I know, but you'll notice that many of the 3rd party stick manufacturers are now using that as the buzzword for their latest gamepads as something even better than their older hall effect generations.
Its not a meme in that it does nothing, it does very well in preventing drift. However, the marketers have seemingly been puppeting many anons who think that A) drift is some major inevitability that happens to most every stick quickly and B) hall effect is just magically universally better and doesn't consider that crappy cheap hall effect sensors on some 3rd party knockoff may have lesser smoothness, accuracy, deadzone issues etc. vs a potentiometer using first party. I'd have no problem with first parties updating to using hall effect (or TMR if that is the latest buzzword) if they are of quality, but some of the controllers I've purchased 6 or more years ago seem to be working fine without drift so the idea that I somehow threw away my money is silly.

What other "elite" controller could I have bought in the late 2010s? Some of those frankenstein composites that had many issues?. SCUF's which turned into a total clusterfuck? Unlike many of the 3rd party today, I don't have to use a proprietary Windows only app to configure mine, or only get gyro to function when its in Switch mode, or not want to bind any extra button, or only works because it spoofs itself as fucking Xbox360 controller so you lose certain functions, or how triggers may not be linear, or haptics may be simple rumble, unlikely to have touchpad, mic, or onboard speakers, or myriad other 3rd party issues for even recent pads, not counting how bad they used to be in the past. The newest bought was DualSense Edge and there's hardly anything that has DualSense features (ie can replicate the exact same experience playing something that uses them, like Ghost of Tsushima or Death Stranding) much less Edge ones
All of this weighted against your obsession with potentiometers going to fail, which they've not done yet and if they do I'll replace them. They've all served well for a min 3 years; its not like there was a perfect HE equivalent at the time I just didn't choose for some reason.

It seems like they both support Wired, Wireless 2.4G and Bluetooth, however they label things differently. The 2.4G mentions being able to use gyro in the 2.4G mode, but the Bluetooth mentions it has to be set to Switch (Bluetooth) connectivity? So can gyro be used on either option, with either version of the controller? How about Wired? I'd think if nothing else if connected wired it ought to be able to read gyro - I know that DualSense can do so. Are there any real functional differences between the two models except for the Nintendo style ABXY style labeling on the face buttons on BT and Xbox style on Wireless? For that matter the new Pro 3 seems to only have one model (3 colors) that works on everything and has many, but not all of the Ultimate 2 features so I wonder if the Ultimate 2's BT vs Wireless models is just cosmetic?

the more I use this, the more things I find to dislike about it. might buy a new controller from a different chink brand, but I don't regret buying this. it's relaxing to press buttons and make clicky sounds.
for me it is the ps3 controller
>>715598950The most popular option are the dualsense and the ds4 pad. I personally like the dpad of the ds4 more.
The hori fight commander for switch is similar to the old fight commander that a lot of people liked. The new hori octa is something you either love or hate so it's hard to get a consensus on it.

Pic related is an interesting concept; I like its FOSS and has some decent features. However the
>Oh built from the ground up for gyro bros
>doesn't swap the wheel and the mini right stick location, use full size RStick
>doesn't have a dedicated activate gyro button, suggests OH JUST HOLD DOWN L1 TO ACTIVATE GYRO
seems foolish to me. If anything was learned from Steam Controller is that you have to include all the feature of the standard layout before you add other random bullshit, otherwise its often underwhelming and requires a very large adjustment period. I hope they keep working at it it, but a handful of changes could improve it.
>>715625749Either
Just TMR is higher resolution but you're actually just supposed to find good quality sticks, you can definitely find TMR sticks that are shit
>>715626081It's telling you to use touch hex for gyro not L1, what the fuck are talking about.
>>715606087>Is there any real difference in functionality between the Wireless and Bluetooth model?Wireless models lack Switch functionality but otherwise have better hardware. Gyro is strictly bluetooth dinput, unless they're still doing the thing where xinput dongle maps gyro to right stick.
Bluetooth models have a proper Switch mode, but for whatever reason have significantly lower polling rate and significantly higher and less stable latency across all input modes, picrel. Can be used wired or wireless with gyro.
>Any other companies alternativesBigBig Won and GameSir allow using any of xinput, playstation, or switch input modes across any of cable, dongle, or bluetooth, and have significantly more software customization.
Flydigi often functions similarly both wired and wireless, with the catch that there's (usually?) no Switch over dongle or Dinput over bluetooth. Also has more software customization, but unfortunately requires leaving it open in the background if you want keyboard or mouse binds on buttons.
Most of the lesser brands like PXN, Machenike, and Mobapad have similar customization to 8Bitdo but allow xinput dinput or Switch options across any connection.
>spoonfeeding suggestionsBigBig Won: Blitz 2 TMR, Aether
Gamesir: Cyclone 2, Super Nova, G7 Pro, Nova 2 Lite, Tarantula, Tegenaria
Flydigi: Apex 5, Direwolf 3, Vader 4 Pro
PXN: P5 8K
Machenike: G5 Pro v2, if you don't need gyro G1 Pro
8Bitdo: Ultimate 2C Wireless, Ultimate 2 Wireless
All a steam controller needs to do is include every input feature the deck has. The same exact thing. 4 back buttons (or maybe 2), 2 trackpads, 2 capacitive thumbsticks, gyro, haptics. They don't need to include the 2 microphones though.

>>715626562Thanks that's helpful. I saw the config video for the Wireless version that has to do with using the Ultimate V2 utility to configure gyro while using the dongle, but I had to wonder if you were using Bluetooth mode if it would work with the Switch (or at least have the same BT features, gyro etc.. . Its odd that if the other manufacturers have universal application regardless of wired/BT/2.4gDongle then why it seems that 8bitdo restricts apparently? I get having aesthetic differences like Switch button layout or simply having a version without 2.4g if you don't want to pay for it then okay, but otherwise it should be universally feature capable on wwhatever modes are available. Its odd to have latency differences - must be a different chipset, but if both versions actually have all three Wired/BT/2.4 then not sure why. Maybe they're learning - the 8bitdo Pro3 seems to have a single model that includes all the features.

>>715640676Oh hell yeah. I'm actually really excited to see what they have cooking for it and if it is truly Windows I'm hoping they make Vulkan available for it so we can see more emulators available. My Xbox already has dev mode but a next gen console that just freely lets you download emulators off a browser rather than a storefront would be fantastic.
I'm hoping they get rid of the wireless licensing though, I'd love to swap the standard controller out for a third party hall effect controller but I'm not willing to trade wireless because I mainly game in the living room with a lot of kids running around tripping on my shit. Also I'm hoping the BC program comes back and lets you play more OG Xbox games through a universal disc based solution, the current lineup for that particular console is way too small.
