The arguments about licencing or having to reengineer the game are retarded. Any law wouldn't apply retroactively and you'd know from the start you will need to have an end of life plan so you'd design it in a way that makes it possible to repackage and you'd negotiate licences that allow you to do it and the providers of those tools or services would have no choice to agree if they want any market share in game development.
Also maybe the newest live service slop doesn't run off server.exe but people are vastly overestimating how difficult is to set up muh multiple services. You probably don't need all of them in the first place, battlepass is not updating again anyway. There's still installer packages, config and start-up scripts and written procedures. Anyone with a bit of relevant experience would be able to figure that out with those tools. Gigantic's Steam launch.
They were behind on bugfixing because they had to make the game work with Microsoft's garbage storefront in order to get some extra funding when things were getting desperate.
Once the Steam launch rolled around, they had a huge issue with the game being outright unplayable if you had less than a certain amount of RAM, I forget the exact amount.
They made that issue known on the store page when downloading that it would not run if you didn't meet the RAM requirement, and even if you did download it regardless, it wouldn't even try to run and tell you that you didn't meet the requirements and refuse to do anything.
Regardless of all the warnings, the game got review bombed by people complaining that the game wouldn't run for that reason and tanked its review average.
