I feel that the fundamental game design of Melee breeds autistics.
Combining grounds and aerials you have around 30 different moves all with 30 different niche use cases per character and this is without even beginning to take into consideration blocks, dashes, grabs, ledge guards, cancelling, etc which vary WILDLY between characters.
To truly understand the game you must become obsessed and to enjoy the game the must understand the game. It's like fly tape for spergs and weirdos. It's astounding that there are still people out there that are surprised at the absolute state of the fanbase.

I won't argue that Melee isn't complex, but saying that it's the most complex fighter can be something of a stretch. Something like Guilty Gear XX AC+R has a ridicilous amount of variables across its cast, that even when you become competent with one character, you'll have a mountain to climb with the others. Someone like I-no outright feels like you need to become a tibetan monk practicing some of the FRC tech to even approach the best I-No players. Even someone like Faust, who has a relatively simple gameplan, has so many gameplay interactions and situations because of his random item toss.
