Both the original and a the Deluxe mod I'm currently playing work like a charm on my 11yo laptop. My phone (a basic motorola) runs the game too, but it randomly crashes because the CPU is too fast or something, and I haven't tried to change settings to fix it.

Dolphin uses your system's clock, but you can change the dare and time manually. Also the game lets you change the time and date separately from the console/system date.

The Deluxe mod I'm playung let's you pick from 4 maps at the start of the game, skip Tom Nook's tedious part-time job and find items exclusive to events and cards through normal ways. I can share a prepatched .iso if you want it.
