It's realism. AC might be cute and filled with talking animals and leaves that turn in to furniture but it's still real. It's still on earth, they still make references to real places, all the bugs and fish are real, the fossils are real, the holidays are real and the huge majority of decorations for both holidays and real life look like something you would actually put in your house. This is what all the AC clones miss on such a fundamental level. They think that because AC has talking animals and some of the furniture items are "magical" that AC is actually a world filled with dragons and monsters and super powers when it's not. Just look at this game, it's sci-fi themed. That's not comfy at all, that's not what makes AC fun. It's the idea that your little town is on some level real and exists in the real world.
