Just picked up master duel, learning the basics. Played yugioh 20 years ago but not at any card shops or anything.
One thing I learned is I hate this card, any /v/irgins wanna help recommend me a deck I can play in ranked?

Look up how to build a deck with fewer Ultra Rares (UR). You won't be optimized early because of the beginner handicap of starting with nothing, but don't get ahead of yourself and spend your currencies frivolously, save them up for either archetypal URs or meta relavent hand traps (cards that can be played during your turn from the hand), like Maxx C and Ash Blossom.
My personal recommendation would be a fish deck, there's plenty of options to choose from and are beginner friendly, like Ghoti and generic Sharks. I taught my brother how to play using Ghoti, the cards look cool and aren't waifus, unless that's your thing. But yea.

this specific type of statistic. 140k games between bronze and master seems like a bit broad, to me.

Look into making a Scareclaw deck, brother. I run it going second with a ton of handtraps because it has an easy OtK combo, room for Link Climbing, only 1 Xenolock and all of its normal summons are 1 card combos because the archetype has a Link 1 that searches the Field Spell that searches an extender.

Once Apollousa is banned Shifter actually ends up decent against Maliss.
You'd think it's bad but the Maliss endboard is weak without generic cyberse slop, and White Binder can't set a banished Maliss trap.
Basically no deck in YGO wants to have everything banished. At best, decks ignore it like Kash, Floo or Exosister. But a lot of decks that interact with banish also need to interact with GY.

I'm sure the stats are correct, but the data from bronze to diamond is literally worthless and only dilutes the metrics. Blue eyes and tenpai are retardproof decks with the complexity of a yoyo, even a mouthbreeding faggot like the average platinum hardstruck yugioh player can vomit the same combo over and over and bruteforce his way through winning games they shouldn't have won due to sheer raw power. Malice is an more complicated nonlinear combo deck so most players on lower ranks are going to fuck it up and tank the winrate. I believe that right now malice is the strongest deck in the format and the 6% winrate difference is an embarrasing metric that talks of the playerbase and not the deck.

It's the only data I have access to. If you want data on specific ranks, you need to pay for it.

That said, Konami seems to balance the game for health, not for raw balance. They care more about player experience than they care about what dominates. It's why floodgates get hit, but Snake-Eyes and Branded (popular decks) have been kept alive for a long time despite people bitching about them. It's why Tearlaments never lost Kitkallos. And why powerful cards that are banned in paper like Apollousa and Verte remain legal. Etc.... So they're more than likely going to judge the entire ladder as a whole, rather than just the highest rank that only a small fraction of the player base reach.

What can we tell from this data:
Maliss is very popular 36% play rate and by far the most played deck this month.

Maliss also have a very poor winrate conversation on the ladder compared to competitive environments (tournaments). This is because everyone is main-decking a floodgate that forces a turn skip, and guaranteed 22% chance of fully resolving any given game.

Game is shit, coin flip simulator. Won the coin flip or lose unless you get lucky and your opponent bricks, or you have enough hand traps to stop them and they don’t have the extenders to play through. Otherwise they just set up more interruptions than you have cards in your hand. Want to play board breakers? Well now your deck is less consistent so when you win the coin flip you’re more likely to brick or get stopped by fewer hand traps, and when you’re going second you’re more likely to not draw your own combo starters, plus the board breakers probably won’t even be enough anyway with omninegates and layered disruptions seen in meta decks. Just a trash game and the only reason I play it is because it’s on my phone and I can play it at work or when on the couch with my gf. Been top 5% rating fuels multiple times as well, this game isn’t even hard, it’s just all luck.

I have every stapple ever and build a multitude of decks, while master duel fucked me by putting my whole ass deck on the banlist(Tenpai + stapples to 1) and i cant get the Craft Points that i invested back, as i didnt play during the arbitrary time i can make a full return on banlisted cards.
Only reason i even have more than 1 deck in MD is that the RDA Structure released and that Gold Sarc was on the same Secret Pack as Tenpai.
And i still need my playset of fuwa and dominus and all the other playset stapples.

In order to use a physical card you had to bring it on your person then lay them down on the table to play against another. "Scooping" refers to the motion of gathering all your cards up off the table and piling them together.

I'm really happy with it so far, thanks for asking. Still a lot of space in the binder left but it's going smoothly. Going to ask for more help once all my packages arrive. There always seems to be one monster I missed like L Magi Mergy and WAKE CUP! Mocha.
And eventually I have to move on to Rush Duel.
The binder was $25 with free shipping. It's $10 over MSRP but other sellers were listing $35 - $40 so I'm not too upset. I just think it's funny how the binder cost more than any single card in there.

You can play invoked with them. They don't really use your normal summon and joker's knight, joker's straight and joker's wild are the trio of monster/spell/trap so mechaba in theory always has the appropriate discard for negates.
You can run utopia, one nice thing about running poker knights in utopia is they can reload your extra deck by shuffling the light warriors back into the ED. ED burnout is one of utopia's issues if a game goes past turn 3.

The big problem with poker knights is how every single one of their spells is unsearchable. They really need a "add 1 card that lists queen/king/jack knight to your hand". You basically have to rely on hard opening joker's straight every game.

Quick tip: Separate the owned and ordered lists.
If a card doesn't arrive, you'll have to cross-reference with the entire ever-growing "owned/ordered" list to put it back in the "to buy" list.
But if you separate them, the owned list keeps growing without having to look at it, and the ordered list is always at a manageable size.

Unlocking packs is as easy as

Honestly, having been in this situation, the best answer for me was to look up videos explaining spell speed in master duel. There is a lot more that goes on under the hood of the game that the game doesn't explain. Like turn player precedence, which decides how chain links start during the end phase if there are activations that can be met (think branded, they use end phase alot). Spell speed, in layman's terms, is just the order at which cards can be activated legally.

Here's a neat fact, counter trap cards can only be responded to by other counter trap cards, or cards that exceed spell speed 3, so if you activate something and your opponent solemn judgements and you don't have a counter trap, that's usually the end of the chain outright.

Kashtira used to be pretty highly tiered, known as the incel deck of choice because of its boss monster, the waifu slayer himself Arise-Heart (he steals your waifu after he banishes her and then he sits on her like a chair). The deck's strength has since been diminished due to toxic game design, Konami knows this and tried to make amends by pre-hitting Fenrir and Wraitsoth in MD, but took it a step further by Limiting Fenrir and Semi-limiting unicorn a couple months later.
All in all, without those cards in your hand, Kashtira isn't as threatening as it used to be. It's theoretical strength still exists, but it's consistency is so lackluster that it simply cannot reach the same end boards that it used to.

There used to be an even more toxic non Kashtira card called Diablosis the Mind Hacker, who would banish facedown upwards of 22 cards from opponents deck on turn 1.

In the OCG/MD if you triggered the opponent's Unicorn rip from extra deck effect and as chain link 2 took control of it, on resolution you would rip a card out of the opponent's extra deck because you now control the Unicorn.
In the TCG it's a 50/50 on who gets to rip from the extra deck because the fucking judges can't make up their minds and rule differently each event and the TCG doesn't allow you to reference OCG rulings. And you can't ask the judge which of the two it is before you decide whether to chain it or not because that would influence your decision and is considered coaching, so you have to blindly do it and then call the judge to find out what it actually does.

Honestly, I would hypothesize that Konami uses Master duel as a limit tester, to see how much they can leave legal and test the boundaries of cards in a controlled environment. Cards like Kitkallos (iirc is banned in OCG and TCG could be wrong) are legal even today just for the sake of power level testing. Master duel is the strongest format in terms of cards that are available for all 3 formats, since obviously Ryzeal, Mitsurugi, et cetera aren't out yet.

Unlike MTG which is a singular product regardless of the region, Yugioh is actually two products: The Official Card Game (OCG, Asia) and The Trading Card Game (TCG, west). Konami of Japan (the company that actually licenses the Yugioh IP) is only behind Master Duel and the OCG. Western Konami does the TCG which has no bearing on the OCG or Master Duel. The TCG is basically a licensed fanfic that lives on its own bubble.

If you're asking "why does virtually a different and unrelated agent manage a completely different game on the west instead of Konami of Japan doing it everywhere in the year of our lord 2025", well who knows. God knows what lead to the creation of the TCG spinoff in the west instead of just Konami licensing the OCG as is. Maybe they didn't think there was any kind of point or market for it.
Thinking about it you have to consider that Yugioh was a completely unknown brand in 1999 (OCG first set, yugioh was still only a manga) since the first run of anime aired in japan between 2000~2004 and didn't air in english until 2001 and nips didn't believe in globalism at that point in time at all. The first print run of the TCG was on 2002 with a 3 year gap between the OCG and the TCG, and initially it was licensed and distributed by a completely different company (not even western Konami) way back then. They skipped the first few sets even, the west never got Volumes 1-7, the first set was Legend of the Blue Eyes White Dragon. About 8 years later or something western Konami got the hold of the TCG but they took what was "its own thing" and kept doing "their own thing".
If I had to take a guess by the time Konami could and should've considered merging both games, taking control of the TCG and merging it with the OCG, the game was probably too much "its own thing", so they probably didn't bother and just kept business as usual.

You'll get a feel for the game, eventually. Kaijus are mostly played by decks that can afford going second and have in-engine ways to deal with the big fucker (or that want to win the game going second outright). Their utility is 100% dealing with monsters with quick effect disruptive abilities that would interrupt your combos, since you tribute them as a cost for the special summon without giving them a window to respond. The most used ones are lava golem (if you don't have to normal summon in your deck), sphere mode (for 3 monster succ) and gameciel (lowest atk). Then you combo and somewhere in the combo of your deck you ideally have pops or make gigantic fucking dudes to run over the kaiju during combat.

You could theoretically get to master with ninja even if you really get the hang of it but you're going to sweat a lot and you'll need to have very extense knowledge of the matchups and that takes time and months of playing the game. You're going to get murdered a lot. Take it easy and enjoy the process. Don't be afraid or ashamed to build and play meta decks as you'll understand them (and their weaknesses) better. Winning games with other decks gives you a better feel of the reach of your weaker decks too.

Maliss doesn't have a consistent endboard. Sometimes it's Terahertz pass, sometimes it's Appo + Terahertz and sometimes it's Crypter pass.
No one breaker cracks the board, and even 2-3 don't stop it. The best you can do is chummy or maxx them and have a high gas deck that lets you keep playing as you draw more cards.
If you could Lancea on your turn, I can see more decks consistently breaking Maliss since that stops Desave too, but it's opponent turn only.
