I beat the first game on a PS1 emulator on my Retroid Pocket, but I don’t feel like playing the second one on my PC because it’s not as comfortable as my couch facing the TV. I played the second one a bit when I was younger on the PS2, but I noticed that in the remake they’ve oversaturated the colors and made everything brighter, which seems to ruin the later melancholic mood. Should I just play it on an emulator in a less comfortable position, or should I get the remake?

Klonoa 2 never had that mood except in VERY specific stages, i think the brighter colors fit the game perfectly, its Klonoa 1 the one that gets messed up in this remake

It doesn't exist independently from him, at least it doesn't in Lunatea's Veil. Klonoa 2 is a personal dream while Door to Phantomile can be seen as a collective dream. Both of these concepts lead to completely different narrative dynamics.

It's also why the game doesn't bother giving context to the setting at all. Since every important element is meant to reflect Klonoa personally. Which is completely different how things are handled in Klonoa 1 where we roughly know things like Ghadius' backstory. That's why the game utilises so many elements that don't really fit very neatly into a coherent story.

The game is literally about Klonoa collecting his marbles.
