Because Hideo Yoshizawa was inspired by Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep and Blade runner for the story of Door to Phantomile. Fake memories implanted to make Klonoa believe he was from Phantomile to motivate him to save it. So I assume he is basically a replicant, because he is also a clone of the player.
