They detail in post-ShB how the tempering mind control is a result of the soul being imbalanced toward an umbral state, which sort of 'locks' the subject's mind in a moment of worship toward the primal. The story in this game will never recover, as a result.

There was supposed to be an entire expansion dedicated solely to Garlemald, but then they went with EW, which tackles Garlemald and its problems in just a few missions, which felt a little disappointing and/or rushed. Some dungeons and bosses are quite good. Voice acting and music as great as ShB. The post-MSQ patches are worse, though, because that's when Hiroi took the reins and Ishikawa and Koji-Fox were moved to another projects.

Do I think it will be outstanding? Nah. It's one of the lower octane patches, it seems, and will heavily depend on how well they do the MSQ finale.
But I'm interested every patch, and this one is no different. If I had one point of critique, I'd probably dump a variant in 7.35, but whatever.
The MSQ looks interesting so far, I love the Alliance Raid (I have no XI nostalgia), deep dungeons are alright and I have hope the new one can be fun due to YoshiP's comments. Trial will probably be Necron, so that's cool either way. Looks like good QoL updates as well (hats, hair in hoods, furniture limit raise and whatever else they haven't mentioned yet), and I'm always looking forward to seeing some of the rewards.
And then graphical updates to old stuff are also interesting to me.

The DT story is average, it is neither good nor bad. Newer players are mostly unhinged people who jumped on the bandwagon late and cannot handle something that is simply average. They feed off popularity and when something isn't trending upwards they get mad and instead flip to creating drama to make themselves feel better.

You can always recruit for your own static, it might take some time but it's the best bang for your buck.

However I've noticed that most of these statics start off as ' yeah i want to clear every bit of content in the game ' and then get burnt out doing the pile of shit that is ARR extremes and Coils, usually disbanding in Savage Coils (if they choose to do so) or Alexander. My advice is to do older fights on Blue Mage instead, that way you get a different experience from the usual crap, and anyone who's leveled blue mage is probably at least slightly better than people thinking they can roll into T7s and beat it with 40% GCD uptime

We're not getting an ultimate next patch which is fine. They could stop making ultimates forever and it would affect me. But Ultimates are massive manpower sinks and my question is where are those resources going if we're not getting an Ultimate.
Unless they reveal a surprise Chaotic or Beastmaster in the next liveletter I'm going to keep being mad.

I won't pull punches, the low fantasy setting absolutely hindered the variety and impact of the overall musical score substantially, the length and breadth of musical differences in XIV is what gave many of it's Primal fights a lot of their oomph and it lacks in XVI. See either of the Titan themes, and having something like those mixed into the XVI one would have made it better.

But you better god damn believe that if you say No Risk No Reward, Hideaway Primogenesis, or Hideaway Our Terms are bad in any shape or form you're just being a disingenuous fuck. Even the way Hunts begin with a freeze frame of the wanted poster as the music starts relatively muted until the fight starts for real feels great.
