When the inevitable model update drops it's gonna be hard for me to not at least consider trading my launch model in for one. The screen compared to my Deck is just night and day but I can live with it to a degree because I can just play docked but what really gets my goat about the Switch 2 is the battery is abysmal so even if I want to play handheld and can deal with the low quality screen used I still have a worse battery life than my Deck too. I know eventually there will be games on this thing I'm gonna want to play but this launch has been rough for anyone who doesn't care about Mario or DK.

Bayonetta 3, Astral Chain, Spark the Electic Jester 3, Pennys Big Breakaway, Cyberpunk bombrush, prince of persia and the list goes on. It's kind of unreal that so many games are smooth at a solid 60 even without patches.

I got the MKW bundle and also bought DKB last week. I haven’t finished DKB but it’s fun MKW I haven’t even tried online yet but I don’t hate the single player. Mostly I’ve been playing TotK. TotK I never got into past the tutorial so I restated and I’m at the wind temple now. Using ultra hand made the FPS chug on the original switch and it was needed so much it kinda ruined the game but now it’s perfect and looks so smooth and sharp. Been enjoying it a lot as this is my first play through (not counting the earlier attempt where I stopped playing at the first village)

I’m playing Tears of the kingdom in handheld and it looks incredible and gameplay is super smooth, both in big battles and when using abilities. I launched Breath of the wild on the original Switch yesterday to see if I could tell a difference in looks and performance and it’s night and day there’s no going back.

i keep hearing great things about the new pro controller but apparently it still has that thing where if you let go of the stick and it swings back too hard you get brief opposite direction input, so as long as i have a working pro controller 1 i don't really see the need

I never played the online races. I did the grand prix cups, kinda noticed that I wasn't really playing any laps on the actual courses, then read online that this is programmed and kinda got disgusted by it. I tried freeroam but got lost in the savannah and wasn't really having any fun, and I know now that if I try online I'll likely just get curbstomped by people who know all the trick routes when I'm just racing on the actual course. Plus the knockout tours I did were really tough and apparently you can 3-star them by just hanging back?

Honestly in retrospect if I had known all this I wouldn't have bought World and have just stuck to 8D instead. I'll play it if any of my friends ever want to play, but I have no desire to return to it otherwise. Still would've bought a Switch 2 though.

I was told to turn on the battery saver option in the settings to help preserve it in the long run. I've noticed that the battery's been capping out lower and lower over time. Used to be 95-ish but now it stops at 80%. I know that's expectef buy i dunno how normal 80 is supposed to be

I have two Eshop accounts, one European and the other Japanese. The latter requires to use prepaid cards (that you can easily get from Play-Asia but they charge an extra compared to the actual value). My bank card never worked since I had a Switch in late 2020, but Nintendo Japan recently banned foreign cards to be used and only allow Paypal accounts made in Japan (which require an actual JP phone number).

It's an extra hoop, if a little bit inconvenient, but better than nothing.

DK should arrive tomorrow, today I got the Gamecube controller, I play Wind Waker with it and MK with the Pro controller. I‘m at 7900 in knockout!

I’m in Bananza post game right now. The difficulty picked up a good bit for Grumpy’s fight rushes, both the fight rush and boss rush took me a few tries but the boss one was easier when I remembered glare exists. Blusterwing and the Goop guy in the rush should’ve been the real fights but I get why they didn’t do it for bluster. The rehearsals I’ve done so far were pretty easy sadly.

I REALLY want a portable version of the GTA PS2 games and it annoys me so much that that means having to buy Definitive Edition.

Even with the patch a year or so ago, it's still compromised heavily in so many ways. Could I still enjoy them? Probably. Do I want to support a dogshit port that got slightly but not really cleaned up? Not particularly. It's currently 60% off too.

GTAVI will absolutely be on the Switch 2. It has a reported budget between $1 and $2 billion dollars. They’re going to want to recoup as much of that as possible. Yes it will be an inferior port but it will be less of an impossible port than Witcher 3 on Switch was.

Final more or less finished with Bananza.
For a DK game it's hard to rate because they're all so different but its definitely the one I could see myself replaying the most besides DKC1.
For a 3D Mario game, I am kinda strongly opinionated on these but I'd rank it as:
Galaxy 1 > 64 > Galaxy 2 > Bananza > Bowser's Fury > Sunshine > Odyssey > 3D World.
So I definitely enjoyed it overall. My biggest criticism of it is one I share with Odyssey: You can buy infinite Bananas, which make them lose a lot of their collectability and the satisfaction of finding them, albeit at least Bananas feel a little harder to buy than moons did. Otherwise I just wish it had some more challenging bosses. The final Void Kong fight and the Final Boss in general were a solid difficulty but it didnt feel like the game ramped up to that level properly. The big bat boss and the rolling fireball guy at least felt like they were at a galaxy level of difficulty where I actually had to use my brain and do a thing, but the grumpy and poppy kong fights were all disappointingly anticlimactic and it would have been nice to get a secret postgame version of each on the same level as the final boss for difficulty.
Also very happy with the level of platforming, it wasnt QUITE as much platforming as I would like but after getting basically zero platforming as Mario in Odyssey, I was surprised at how many platforming challenges DK offered, especially since the marketing made it feel like it would probably have even less, so that element of it tickled my Galaxy fan brain.

By the time GTAVI is released, the Switch 2 will have already sold more than half of the XBS X/S install base. There will definitely be a Switch 2 port, just not in the first year. Rockstar needs to sell as many copies as they can as the budget is well over a billion dollars. There's no way Switch 2's PS4-level CPU can handle GTA6. I'm sure the GPU with some DLSS fudgery could manage something similar to Series S output, but the Switch 2's CPU is a massive bottleneck, it's why we see frame drops in Bananza, and GTA6 will surely be making heavy use of CPU for traffic and crowds.

It’s going to be compromised but it’s still going to happen. The CPU is technically still more powerful than the PS4 but still quite a bit below that of a Series S. Reduced traffic and pedestrian density, reduced CPU-reliant physics and particles and anything CPU intensive will be culled but anything that relies on the GPU will run absolutely fine. I'm playing mostly Switch 1 titles. My original Switch 1 became ummmmmmmmmmm..... "non-obtanium" somewhere 2021 hehe , so I had to buy a new switch 1 couple of months ago to test waters if my account was still stable (turns out it was). So past 3-5 months I've been buying 50-75% sales on eshop and discovering some "new" games. I'm on a honeymoon period with "scarlet tower" now, top-down view action roguelite game (a game I like, but which I struggle to find new game for since I don't know how to search for these tags), and it costed me only 4,99$ which is a steal for such great game. Other games I've liked playing recently are tower defense games like Dungeon Warfare, and Defense Grid 2. I'm also trying to buy as many dynasty warrior style games that are on sale (would appreciate if someone could list them all, I know of only hyryle warriors and one piece games) ever since I tested out one of the one piece games on my "first switch" and found it was very addictive gameplay wise (and since many of those games get performance boost on Switch 2 backward compatbility). Yeah basically any games that gives me action, I can turn my brain-off while watching some video on second monitor, is a great game in my book
