I think if you imagine a situation where you make 0 money then you'll enjoy the process more
>>716401834the demo is supposed to help discovery right? Try Next Fest
>>716434182I agree. That's what I'm doing and it lets me focus on stuff I find fun rather to appeal to market trends, all while having fun developing a game with 0 pressure. Thing is you need a job or some other way to support your hobby, and I can understand anons going in for the money if they don't have any other influx of money.
>>716434417Yeah regarding the no other income, there is almost literally no worse choice to make money when you have none than gamedev right now - either indie or professional. Maybe photography is worse, but you would legit be better to just get a job in a grocery store and you'd probably make more there in a week than you would in a lifetime of gamedev
>>716434784>you'd probably make more there in a week than you would in a lifetime of gamedevOut of probability? yeah, for sure. Releasing a game is kinda like playing the lottery: you might won big time, but you probably won't. That's why I think it's best to just do it for fun and make something you really love or want to play. The industry is already full of greedy companies that only look for the money, and it would be sad if the same happened to indie devs.
So do adult game devs now have to implement some face id scan fuckery for the United Kingdom cucks or wha?
>>716431731>>716431882If you do nothing you automatically you are suing Valve. If you dont want to be part of the lawsuit then you need to opt out by filling up your credential.
>>716435035 Exactly. If you're rolling the dice anyway, might as well at least enjoy the game youโre making while youโre likely not getting paid. Chasing trends just turns you into a poor man's version of a worse game. At least if you make your weird little passion project, you get the satisfaction of making something you care about-even if only 5 people play it. And those 5 might love it way more than 5,000 who barely noticed your soulless roguelite deckbuilder farming sim.
>>716414763My only gripe with this is how the back of the gun's slide, where the hammer is supposed to strike, is just a slab blank stretched texture. Hell, even the gun's slide doesn't look like it would recoil upon firing.
I know it's stylized art, but had to point this out. Even CS1.6 from 1999 had a texture at the back of the slide and a moving slide.
t. /k/
>>716436284he can't texture he just took a photo of a deagle and used it as the side plane texture
>>716436482Yeah that's obviously the case but at least finish up that side of the gun because it's awful to look at.
By the way, I can't texture for shit either, but generally how is one supposed to texture items like say guns, cars, plants, furniture...etc?
As far as I'm aware the usual method is using photos of stuff, making them seamless, then placing them onto where they're needed on the model. Like plants would use the green smooth texture of stems, photos of leaves stretched onto a leaf UV map, and furniture would be straight-up seamless textures of wood, plastic...etc.
How about guns or cars then? That's much harder to pull off.
>>716437086Depends a lot on how detailed your model is and if you have normal maps or not. With a high fidelity model you can basically slap pbr materials on it and it will look right. With lower fidelity you need to paint the detail in the textures which can be achieved in various ways. With guns it's common to use pictures of the real things to texture them. You could do the same for cars in theory. Requires some image editing of course.
>>716435393No, they'd just have to make normal games like Kameo for the Bongs.
GameMaker can't depth sort for shit, so I have to sort vertices in the model itself, and Blender doesn't really let you do that reliably. If I don't do that, the non-opaque parts would overwrite anything behind them. This workflow sucks, but so far the result looks nice with additive blending.
>>716439814>3D in GameMakerbest of luck anon
>>716420064>The gold rush really seems to be in it's final days,The gold rush ended with Steam Greenlight retard, we're smack dab in the middle of the dark ages, where success is entirely algorithm driven, and the algorithm only promotes shitty gambling-like trash or "fun with friends" slop.
>>716440686If the game is really good people will end up finding about it.
>>716440859Long after the dev has given up on gamedev entirely and it will max out at 300 reviews, remaining very niche at best. You have a very out of date view of the gaming market and culture nowadays. Nobody cares for passion or vision anymore, despite what /v/ says.
>>716441271>Nobody cares for passion or vision anymoreMost people don't because most people are midwits. Cool gamers still care about it, and dare I say now more than ever since the AAA industry has abandoned them.
>>716441460>Cool gamers still care about it, and dare I say now more than ever since the AAA industry has abandoned themThere's only like 50 "cool gamers" compared to 50 billion midwits. >>716440859 is right because despite the huge number of games to play, most of them are appallingly bland(including some popular games) if not outright bad. Just make something unique and appealing and you'll get your due sooner(with marketing) or later(without marketing). The problem is that the most creative people(those who struggle with the puer aeterna) have difficulty finishing projects, therefore, most games are made by less creative people with proper work ethic, hence why most games nowadays are so drab and uninspiring.
