No, last patch's goal was to "increase individuality, lessen damage, nerf 6Ps". Pic related

They wanted to increase the number of interactions without outright killing the big damage combos, so they had also buffed a lot of moves to do more damage, which ended up making things worse.
Then they rolled out an emergency patch the next month which reversed a lot of these damage buffs. A few characters like Zato, Testament, Bedman? actually kept these buffs, but they were not the one doing TODs on counterhit.

Then for individuality, they reworked a few characters, to varying degrees of success.
Sol and Nago got significant changes that don't kill the character or make them too strong
Ramlethal went from high tier to top tier character
Potemkin got a shit ton of buffs in compensation for losing his kara cancels. And then in the emergency patch they patched back his kara cancels with zero other adjustments, shooting him to top tier as well.

6P recovery nerf basically just means it's more dangerous to whiff it in neutral but just as effective as an anti-air

I think the patch did what it tries to do, just in a very obnoxious way with certain changes

I kept trying to play fighting games but I would always get filtered by the concept of links so I eventually stopped buying them. I don't know why everyone focuses on dp motions when it comes to easy mode controls but not "oops you pushed the button 1/20th of a second too fast now your move isn't going to happen" shit. if I wanted to spend hours practicing pushing buttons in order with precise timing I wouldn't have quit piano lessons when I was a kid.

I bought a Hori Octa recently. I really hate the DualSense's d-pad and wanted to figure out if it was good or bad myself since the reception had been mixed for so long.

This thing is awful out of the box. You need to go online to install the device manager and update the firmware before you even start playing. You will also want to adjust the d-pad sensitivity, because the default settings just suck. I think this is where a good chunk of the negative reviews come from. Hori grossly underestimates how tech-unsavvy the average consumer is.

The button layout will feel odd at first. The bottom buttons are shifted down to make room for the R1/R2 on the face, so it will take some getting used to.
The size is slightly bigger than a DS4. This may be a dealbreaker for dudes with bigger hands.
The controller feels very light. This is because there is no battery or rumble inside, which adds weight to most controllers. Not an issue for me, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Despite everything else, I love this thing. The button layout makes it perfect for having eight action buttons for the right hand while the left hand focuses on movement. I can't think of any fighter that would need ten action buttons, but you do have the option with the L3 and R3 on top. I still just use them for training mode stuff.
The buttons are fat and tight. This makes hitting multiple at once for throws or EX moves easy.
The d-pad feels great once you remap the sensitivity. Pic related is what I used. I only play 2D fighters, so I can't say how well this works for Tekken. However, I did copy these settings from a Tekken player's review. I tighten the center down input slightly more so that I don't accidentally hit it when blocking. It didn't mess with me doing 22x either. With up, I feel that TK motions and IADs are a bit easier now. All the standard motions felt easy.
Overall, I can see why some people hate it, but I'm really happy with mine.

I've heard about that and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it stays in good condition. The worst part about being a pad player is that, realistically, it is the only type of controller that has to worry about breaking. I might just unscrew it and try to DIY if that happens. IDK if the Pro has a better build quality, because otherwise it looked like 50 bucks more for a bunch of extra features I don't need (right stick, wireless, back paddles).
I do own the m13 from Haute42. Even if I swapped back to pad it wouldn't be a waste. I use it all the time for Muse Dash and DDR style rhythm games. I suck at doing 214214x motions and TKs on it, though. I'm still partial to pad because that's what I have been using for so many years.

They're not even hard to perform and are available at almost every point in the match. The combo theory across the cast is the same, across the round is the same, combo length same story. I don't hate the game but that really drags it down for me, contrast to KOF or MOTW in which long and high damage combos can happen but only once resources have been built and only with the right opportunity and not just any stray heavy that doesn't even need to be hitconfirmed.

Obviously it never feels good to get hit by a big combo, but when it happens in other games I can usually just be like "yep, fair" or even think it's pretty cool. When I get hit by a Rev Accel combo I just kinda groan and it doesn't even feel particularly good performing them.

I think devs glossed over the fact that combos and other cool looking shit, being cool looking shit to begin with, was because it was hard to do back then. Took some finesse, a level of focus that bleeds into other aspects of the game and can spell disaster if you overextend with it. Movement being better in older games plays a part in that too, gives the opponent more agency in the event you fuck up to fuck YOUR shit up.

I think really all they had to do was make cancel windows wider. That's it. All these other concessions to how you're able to do motions more loosely and all that is unnecessary.

But what I'm describing is a game that is destined to die because we now well know that to make a game for enthusiasts of the genre is to NOT make it for everybody else, and everybody else is where the money is.

I got into traditional fighters with BlazBlue, and that series died.
There will never be a character as fun for me as Nu-13 from BlazBlue, ever.
I've become less interested in competitive multiplayer games in general and, as I went into my 30s, wanted more defined progression and less frustration in games so mostly play single player stuff.
My current set up has my PC and consoles on the other side of the house from my router, so I'd be playing on pretty ass wi-fi.

All that said I think it's a cool genre and I enjoy following it from the sidelines these days.

It’s mostly very specific things, like Zappa can beat riot stamp by doing 2K to go under its entire duration, since Zappa lacks anti airs that can beat it. A lot of the rest are how a lot of things you wouldn’t expect lose to quick airthrows or Zappa’s 6P. Zappa 6P also works as a wakeup option vs some things like Aba’s flipkick, and it will go under Ky or Jam’s wakeup dps. I’ve also been trying Chipp lately so I’ve taken notes mostly for his character specific combos.

ViolentVodka's mods go hard. Dude somehow cracked the code for character creation in a game that wasn’t built for it at all. Seeing the wild shit people are making with it almost brings a tear to my eye. Closest we’ve gotten to real MUGEN energy in a legit fighting game in years.
