At launch it had game breaking issues, ran like garbage, was censored, and a whole bunch of other stuff.
A while later they released the uncut version which was uncensored, they fixed up most of the bugs, and now it is what it is.
Right now the original version on GOG is unplayable, it's the launch version that never got any of the Steam patches (Though why you would want to play the censored version is anyone's guess), so you need to play the uncensored version.

A big issue was that they advertised it in a way that made people believe it was more or different than it actually was. A great example of this is Scorn which also had the same issue of failing to meet expectations their setting and marketing presented. It's just a walking simulator in Hell with titties, a bunch of gore, and generally things to make you feel uncomfortable.

Firstly, is that exactly what GOG said? The game's dev himself said they simply "want to focus on other things". Secondly, yes. A store front is not a free speech platform, there is nothing to censor - they have the right to curate the products that they sell for the quality of their own brand, and it's up to you to find a suitable vendor for your product. If they had rejected a product that they would ordinarily accept, in order to appease a particular body or demographic, then you would have a case for censorship, but you would have to prove that they would ordinarily accept the product, and that there is some ulterior motive to why they haven't.

When it comes to PC games, being blocked from Steam is a mortal blow to sales potential already. Tokyo Clanpool is a game that went through three different storefronts (Nintendo, Steam, and GOG) and got banned or censored by all three of them. The publishers have said they have no hope of the game succeeding because of its heavily restricted release and can only hope for it to break even. This is a Vita game with no actual explicit content even uncensored. There is no clearer cut case of censorship than this, and no clearer argument to me that stores like Steam should have strict regulations on what they can block from sale since they are de facto gatekeepers of the PC marketplace and publishers rely on them to be able to access the whole PC market. Anything that gets blocked from just Steam, let alone other storefronts, is being unfairly denied an even playing field in the marketplace and this is a problem that needs to be addressed as an imminent free speech issue.
