I hate that the boss has a set pattern, but other than that, it's kind of the best shinobi game. They implemented all the shinobi mechanics, but I still think the game should have two planes, like the OG game. It seems much better than Ragebound, except for the price and DRM. Fuck the lack of regional pricing.

All this nitpicking, it's clear that you guys don't want to admit that Westerners are BFTOING the Japanese on their own turf. The game looks and plays great, my personal nitpick is the boss design. Too repetitive.

No. I was extremely excited on announcement but the demo screams 7/10 (which is still absolutely a good game but not remotely GOTY material).
>Very easy combat between the super strong dodges and middling enemy design; juggling enemies gets old even with all upgrades
>Saving up ninpo/ninjutsu can only make it easier
>Moves that are staples to Shinobi like the Kunai fan jump either gone or will be mid-late game upgrades
>Metroidvania broken up into "stages" that feels almost like the weakest version of either
>Wall cling + airdash spike-room style platforming challenges instead of something more akin to classic Shinobi games
There's better 2D ninja action platformers from the mid-2020s like Shadow of the Ninja Reborn and NG Ragebound but it's still good. It's much more clear why GuardCrush was behind the gameplay of SoR4 while LizardCube was mostly there for the art (which is incredible in AoV to be fair).

Shinobi III, 2002, Nightshade, and 3DS reign supreme. 3DS is the best one but people aren't ready for that discussion.

Am I retarded or do the main 4 Shinobi games (arcade, Revenge, Shadow Dancer, 3) just control like shit? Everything feels really stiff and slow and I’m wondering if it’s just me not understanding how to play.

I can't argue on arcade at all and find Revenge/Dancer a bit annoying too, but I do think III manages to strike a pretty good balance. There's some VERY tight platforming in the final stages that requires a strong understanding of how it works but by the time you get there you should kind of have a feel for it. If you want Shinobi III with smoother controls though play the 3DS one, it feels like a mechanical sequel in a lot of ways while still having its own ideas.

Shinobi console is much better. Sega's arcade division shone when they had unlimited budgets; anything that was “budget” was immediately worse than any equivalent console game. Shinobi is a good example of this, because console games felt like the premium experience.

>The game combines all the Shinobi games into one.
Do you mean AoV or 3DS? Because I don't really see it in the former outside of some of the basic actions and the executions visually being similar to 2002's. 3DS felt like it took ideas from every prior Shinobi in some capacity, even the weird Saturn one's guarding.

>>Ninja Warriors
>BMUP
Shadow of the Ninja Reborn, anon, not The Ninja Warriors Once Again. Same team, different genre. It's better than Ragebound and AoV's demo easily, and I like all three.

I saw the 3D Shinobi Tate system, that same awkward jump kick in the trailer. I don't know if the game will come with parry and other Shinobi mechanics, but it looks like it will be an all-in-one. Even the combat is Shinobi-like with special moves, except for hand-to-hand combat, which is the only original feature of the game. Some ideas may be subtle; at first glance, you think the game isn't doing them, when it actually is.

AoV's executions don't function the same as 2002 or Nightshade's Tate kill chains. It's very clear that it was inspired by it but it's not the same mechanic.

I never said I'm great at games anon. AoV's combat is easy because it's forgiving even when not going hitless. The only time I even came close to death was the optional spike room platforming challenge near the end of the stage where you respawn at the start if you touch spikes. I'll still play and like it more than some other recent 2D ninja games like Ninja Kamui or Slave Zero X but it's still somewhat disappointing relative to prior Shinobis.

>The only time I even came close to death was the optional spike room platforming challenge near the end of the stage
Which of the two ones exactly?
All three challenge rooms also have hidden checkpoints in the middle.
Anonymous No.717090646 [Report] >>717091020
>>717090436
The one towards the end where you go left at a checkpoint instead of right that starts with the white claw wall, a lot of the challenge was just realizing you need to aim and jump so that you don't actually touch the very top and bottom of each safe wall or else you'll definitely climb or jump into spikes.

>The one towards the end
Again, which one of the two?
I assume you mean the grapple one since you say you go to the left whereas the rift room has you start by going to the right.
The game's scoring system counts a lot of stuff like no hit, highest combo chain, completion of extra stage challenges like the enemy horde rooms etc., for a tutorial stage it wasn't bad at all and let's not pretend older Shinobi games were harder either.
I'm also fairly sure the execution system rewards chains more in terms of score rather than single ones, and I assure you setting up multiple execution chains while avoiding getting hit is not as easy as you say it is.

The hardest part about chaining executions is that the basic ninjas that help fill them out die so easily, but I suppose that's what the kunai are for. You are making me want to replay it for score, which makes me think that the Arcade Mode will be a lot more enjoyable than the Metroidvania format the story is going to be in.
>for a tutorial stage it wasn't bad at all and let's not pretend older Shinobi games were harder either.
It's less that it was hard and more that it didn't feel like Shinobi level design to me, I just mentioned it as an example of the only place where my health got low. The same room could've been in that Prince of Persia Metroidvania from last year.

Most of my personal GOTYCs for any given year never even get nominated at awards. Last year Astro Bot winning was the closest when I'd at best have it in my Top 10 (Kunitsu-Gami, Magenta Horizon, UFO50, Shadow of the Ninja Reborn, Tetrachroma, SXS Generations, and maybe a couple other indies were better). This year will absolutely be going to one out of E33, DS2, or Bananza in terms of awards with some Euro awards going to KCD2, and the only one of those I'm even interested in is DK but I'm not buying a Switch 2 for one game (didn't buy a PS5 for one game either, I borrowed a friend's for Astro Bot).

when we briefly had manuals as part of the main menu during the indie boom, it was bliss. even KC:D1 had a menu manual. forced tutorials need to die unless you make the active decision to go to a training area to master a move or something.
