Scoring in Team Trials is factors heavily on skill activations and top 5 placements. Having less horses puts your average horse quality higher than a similar total score opponent, but you have less opportunities for score bonuses. Having the Kita only improves your ability to build a good statted horses with strong skills.

When comparing to Tosho, Tosho has Training Bonus which is pretty large, and Tosho also has Slipstream and Lone Wolf, and most importantly an event for Charming which can give you extremely good highrolls when you hit it early.

Suzuka is very good, but specifically for Front Runners, which will not be as meta until Seiun Sky.

Team Trials is based on a single lucky win.

You should be building for minimum distance with recovery skills and maxing power/wit alongside speed, stacking as many good skills as possible.

This means that for instance on longs you only get enough stamina to do a 2600 (like 770 with 2 gold recoveries), but when you get a 2500/2600 you have a significantly better chance to win because of all the points you didn't spend on stamina and recovery skills to run 3600s. Then you just need to get that 1 lucky roll in the week where you get all the lowest distances and your opponent has bad moods and you parfait and clear everything.
