This game is the most brutal showcase of how an actual alien invasion would go. You don't heroicaly save everyone and you shouldn't. If you see a civilian on a terror mission with chrysalids you kill them to prevent more zombies and save your guys. Your guys can get mind controled leading to complete chaos when you try to evacuate from a clearly doomed mission. It doesn't ask you to save all your precious soldiers. It asks you to lead a global organization in a world close to colapse. Can you do it Commander?
Im a zoom zoom so at first i couldn't get into the game but now it hooked me. It's a masterpiece and one of the greatest games ever made.

No, but I will, thanks to mutual surprise and aliens with the memories of goldfish that are willing to wait for me to finish lobbing layer after layer of explosive at them while they stand still with their thumbs up their asses too afraid to cause any collateral damage to the planet they are conquering.

Actually, have you even played this game? Or did you read some fan fiction about it, or maybe some IGN article that paints it as hard? Or did some faggot on /v/ share his opinion that the game is hard on superhuman despite each difficulty changing only enemy count and stats with no tactical or intelligence changes at all?

It is a good game but it's flaws are so deep that it's fucking baffling nobody has made a successor or even a mod that is better than the base game. No mod is capable of improving it though as OpenXCOM inherently uses downgraded AI.

Not really. The tech gap would most likely be much bigger for a spacefaring race. Research wouldn't help much as just too advanced to replicate the manufacturing process. It's like suggesting that uncontacted indigenous peoples could build their own machine guns within a year if they captured some.
It's closer to a Predator scenario where they're just having fun not invading.

Just Xenonauts but with higher production value.
Or if we're looking for an actual story sequel, I'd want a game where humans build a big spaceship and it's carrying a giant nuke to the alien homeworld. You have to pirate alien ships and outsposts while defending your ship on the way there before eventually dropping the nuke on them and wiping out all life on their homeworld.
It would involve xcom tactical combat as well as elements of FTL and a Highfleet-style strategy map where you are using your onboard sensors and weapons to evade, misdirect and attack enemy defense fleets. Actually I'd shamessly steal pretty much all the Highfleet strategic map mechanics because they are fantastic and fit perfectly.

It makes no sense that the ayys don't have vastly superior reconnaissance technology. Why can they not simply track a jet back to base and instantly vaporize it from orbit? They have anti-grav technology, biological manipulation to the point of near instantaneous cloning(Chryssalids), plasma technology so advanced they can fit it into a fucking handgun.
In a "realistic" scenario XCOM base would be found immediately and promptly raped by Chryssalids or just simply bombarded to ash.

That can be explained by aliens not having the means to build the necessary ordinances for that.
For all we know, all of their weapons were stockpiled in advance. All they have is a base on Mars and whatever they can setup on Earth before XCOM discovers them.
Some weapons might require industrializing an entire planet for all we know, with construction alone taking years.
