>Spawn in game.
>Fight zombies like a normal roguelike.
>Pain cripples my damage, hit rate and evasion and I die.

>So zombies are dangerous and I am not meant to fight them until I get combat skills and armor? Got it!
>Try to explore the area outside of the city.
>Everywhere noteworthy has zombies.
>Can't realy go anywhere or do anything because the zombies are everywhere.
>Only locations without zombies are fields and forests without anything interesting in them.
Help?

survive long enough to get a functioning car the game gets slightly easier once you build your own mobile zombie tenderiser. no guarantees that you wouldnt keep suffering tho

Finding a functioning car is very easy.
Finding enough fuel to run one log-term is difficult. I guess you need to learn applied chemics and make biofuel from the zombies(?)

Play bright nights find a car and run them all over, pick up their guns and start shooting and running them over until you find enough cars to siphon gas from and enough armor to build your own armored car.

Lead the zombies into high movecost terrain then attack; perform hit and runs. Pick up things to throw at them whilst doing a walking retreat. Just use more than one braincell before you find a decent weapon. You'll have plenty of time for braindead tactics towards the late game.
Anonymous No.717360954 [Report] >>717361068

Bright nights is shit because it doesn't have pockets.
Anonymous No.717361068 [Report] >>717361491
>>717360954
What do pockets do? Like a free holster if you're just wearing pants or something? They'll be enough holsters around when you run over 2 or 3 hordes.
Anonymous No.717361491 [Report] >>717361879
>>717361068
Pockets make everything that can contain items into an actual container. You can drop a backpack and it will have all the items that you store inside in there. In bright nights backpacks and clothing are just buffs to carry capacity, so whenever you drop them the items spill out of you to accomodate capacity loss (you can't control what items are being dropped).
This further expands into e.g. combat bearing vests with pockets that give you speed buffs for drawing mags or grenades out of them, etc.
Anonymous No.717361879 [Report]
>>717361491
Ah yeah, but there are mag pouches and such for your mags and of course holsters as mentioned that act like that. But that shouldn't be a dealbreaker if your main issue, like OP, is the combat in CDDA.

Huh? You just control running and walking intentionally and just maneuver around them while breaking line of sight using cars and hopping through windows. All you really need to beat the ENTIRE game is a crowbar. When I played I didn't even make a base, I just walked around looting houses until I had enough stuff to break into a lab and become invincible. Just slept on the second floor or basement of houses, doesn't even matter if they're surrounded by hundreds of zombies if you make them lose your trail. The only way to make the game hard is to make your character a mentally retarded obese cripple.

Game sucks major ass, all these survival crafting pseudo roguelikes do. Project Zomboid is better.

I am pretty sure once you get into a fight, you are in it and only one of you will come out alive.
If you try to run, the zombies will grapple you and if you have already taken damage, the pain and wounds will make you too slow to run away.

>Just slept on the second floor
How is zomboid any better for that? Did they update it so you can't just break a staircase with a sledgehammer and never see a zombie on the second floor? Also you can't blow up buildings in Project Zomboid even with mods, I tried.

Getting close to a zombie is a pretty bad idea in all zombie movies.
Why is this game handling that differently?

>How is zomboid any better for that
It's not, but in zomboid it's fun to shoot things, it's actually possible to be surprised by something, and it has terrible but at least fun multiplayer.

>Find good armor and learn how armor and encumbrance works. If you have good enough armor you will block almost every attack by a normal zombie. Use this to check for each enemy's stats if you need to: https://cdda-guide.nornagon.net/
>Having good dodge helps too but it's kinda optional at the beginning
>Use melee weapons with a high probability to hit; the difference between a weapon with -1 probability and +1 is massive. You can build a long wooden spear and poke at basic zombies with it at the beginning too
>Get loads of bandages and desinfectants. Use them to heal up faster every time you are going to sleep
>Maybe look for loot during nightime to avoid being seen
>Crossbows are nice to kill silently without alerting the zombies
>Explore. The best part about the game at the beginning is to explore the map and see what freaky shit you can find
>Don't give up, it takes some time to understand the combat system

But that's the base framework how roguelikes work.
You walk into the enemy to do damage. And if you can't handle the enemy, you use the potions and scrolls you have saved up, gain resistances before fighting the enemy or use rings to counter them, which all do not exist in CDDA.

Nah, you're better off salvaging solar panels and slapping them onto your car of choice, and swap out the engine for an electric motor. With enough solar panels and batteries you can have a car that has essentially infinite fuel

Set fire to one house to attract zombies, make noise, then run some circles around them and otherwise avoid them in the beginning, then you can loot some stuff to get started.
Don't expect to rambo against a horde from the get up.
And if your think there is nothing in the wilderness, you haven't explored enough.

>And if your think there is nothing in the wilderness, you haven't explored enough.
There are just trees, raspberries and sometimes pools of tainted water. The most interesting thing I found in the wilderness was an abandoned shack where I guess I can salvage some materials once I get good tools but otherwise it was boring and no loot.

I usually just avoid them. No good reason in fighting them. They don't mess with me and I don't mess with them.
They could make a good long-term food source but I gotta learn to fight first.

Stop pulling every zombie at once and learn to manage your stamina. Also be at least a little stealthy, zombies are retarded so you can out maneuver them easily by ducking through buildings and such.

You are supposed to take every fight 1 on 1, explore cities when its night, the vast majority of monsters cannot track you with their vision unless you are really close to them during nighttime but they can still smell or hear you, conserve enough stamina to run away if necessary, the vast majority of monsters are slower than a prefectly healthy player character that is running

>>717364504
That only happens if you are not healhy and you speed stat is slow enough, the most effective tactic is to kite zombies, like let them climb a table or even go over a bush and then hit, move away from them and repeat, it works so well since any entity including the player character will lose a part of their turn when they move over difficult terrain

The ultimate ability in any roguelike: walk away

You really need a spear with the extra tile of range if you choose the easymode move speed talents, otherwise getting a beefy firearm like a shotgun or rifle is almost a top priority to overmatch anything you can't run away from.
