>portal to the future that has us picking through a totally fucked Cascade with the portal worlds blending into Anteverse 0. Lobby is full night realm, reactor has completely been taken over by Exors, the remaining IS's escaped, etc.

Found a nice gman office with 2 power strips. Might move up there due to where portal storms like to spawn at my base, not sure yet.
Took some time to catch 8 fish, made some fish glue, made some meat stew with the other pest parts.
Made some extra cooking pots and 2 stoves and powerstrip so I could go down to the fountain and make 1000L with 4 pots fairly quickly. Now I dont have to worry about running out of clean water as its fairly easy to fill up a cooler and bring it back to my cafeteria office base.
And now I am in Flatwood. Very cool The Mist vibes.

>>717372714New South Zeil
Its like a play on new south wales. Australian pine gap, a military base, is pretty close and just southeast of Mt Zeil. Strange UFO activity is said to occur around there. Check out Mt Zeil or pine gap on google maps. Looks an awful lot like the area they drive you in on for the opening of this game, and I think the npc has an aussie accent (if its new zealand accent I cant tell the difference)
The thing about Pine Gap is its a "Joint Defense Base" which means the low level perimeter security stuff gets handled by locals in the Australian military. They are the Barneys. The CIA and NSA, they run surveilance and signals intelligence there (and probably X files).
Black Mesa was a reference to white sands. GATE is the name of the research facility here ingame but also theres all of the GATE speculation you see on /x/ about the cia trying to find psychic kids in school.
I'm subtracting 1 point from this games overall score for what they did to Hasta
>>717374749A robot already blew it up once (I recovered all the things that became a package) thats why I went for an industrial setup to watermax. The trick is to set up, boil a ton of water, then tear it all down and store it in my base for later.

boiling water is pretty boring though, shit takes like several minutes to complete
I kinda hate how much of a non issue night is. It's not like tougher enemies spawn at night in greater abundance than they do normally, or if they do, I haven't noticed it.
Same can be said of raids which are honestly pitiful given the kind of defense options you have.

>>717389847That's exactly why I didn't bother starting or posting in threads, everyone should understand by now how tired the average person is of EA survival crafting games.
>>717386996Nope. The inclusion of half life themed stuff or basebuilding does not make it the same at all.
The core gameplay is very different.
Your hunger thirst and rest are going down constantly and days go by much faster.
Votv makes you do hashes, search for signals, and make money, with survival being a bit of an afterthought. A slow burn with the occasional scary event in an environment you know pretty well.
Here, you are learning a million recipees, crafting, gathering materials, stocking your base, building defenses, and are gated by exploration and your ability to go loot the things you need to advance to a new area. You have to sneak or do combat often. Often the new areas you unlock will lead to shortcuts or other doors that you could see before but were not unlocked until you exit them from the other direction. There are NPCs you find that give you lore and dialogues directing you where to go next. For me so far it has been 'well you cant escape that way, try going to this section and finding this guy.'
For example I started by breaking lots of crates and PCs and hauling the goods back to my cafeteria base. There was what I thought was a huge hub like a nexus in dark souls. I explored maybe 2 rooms and hauled it all back to the sofa, dropped it on the ground. Crafted a crafting bench. Eventually crafted crates. Saw I could make a repair/salvage bench. Worked on finding items to make that. I had the option to follow the main quest and unlock the next area. I chose to ignore it awhile and explore everywhere else I could first, which was a lot of other rooms - a pool, locker room, gym, a merchant at the fountain, a dying security guard infront of a door to security section, a fancy office area, several normal office rooms with loot, a large open cubicle area with alien dogs and a ventilation and maintenance area above, a section leading to a portal area that resets daily, and several others
>>717390307>Dying security guard Make sure to give him a bandage

This is more straightforward but still mysterious and engaging and im solo. It has more "game" going on, but VotV kills it with its atmosphere. You start off being a new hire who beats escaped lab experiments to death with a chair leg and slowly turn into a man strapped head to toe in armor you stripped off a holy soldier as you walk into another dimension. It tricks you into thinking it's an open world game with all the shit you can do, but is very much a game with planned story beats and big moments meant to catch you off guard. I was having a lot of fun with the game, but I think I hit the part where they probably gave up with early access and just started trying to finish the game as soon as possible. That part is Reactors, but actually the first reactor was alright (not particularly good though). The second reactor is a completely awful slog. Maybe this is just a random fluke. Probably not.
I was sad they made that really cool zone with the water robot and there's basically nothing in there at all, and you're out of it in 15 minutes.

bionic legs are essentially necessary because you don't even have to fall 10 feet to break a leg; once you do have bionic legs it makes splints unnecessary
military guns are poorly designed. they don't hit nearly hard enough to justify the fact that you have to use up an entire armor slot just to use them, their ammo is scarce and repair kits (while not a big deal) don't need to be unique. frankly, they're just not worth using because there's always a non-military alternative that doesn't require all these resources, time and tradeoffs

This wasn't the case in pre-1.0.
is there an easy way to get from Labs to the big lobby building in Hydro?
seems like a fun place for a base but I don't wanna spend 4 hours hauling
>>717408425The combat sucks and is unbalanced. Too many weapons and weapon types are complete shit or obviously the best with no between.
Needs are something that becomes completely solved after a handful of hours. Not that it even matters because dying hardly matters too, at least on Default settings.
The game scales terribly the more players you have because resources only respawn slowly through portal worlds and progression is a treadmill of having to clear out only the latest areas as soon as enemies and portals respawn for the most part. So that's more resources per person. Even worse if you have someone in your group who wants to have his own keypad hacker and make his own copy of weapons and armor just because, setting you back one farming run every single time.
Skills are likewise unbalanced with how much conscious effort you need to put into grinding some of them, and Fishing fucking sucks because you have to wrangle the fish three times no matter what.
Base building is too simplistic, raids aren't near threatening enough to make you feel proud of your fort, weather conditions are simply a nuisance you go to a button to to turn off, and The Moving Chest needs to fuck off when I'm building.

Might be weird to say but you can feel the passion in the game. It feels like the devs just wanted to include the things they thought were cool and any cool idea that came into their head they actually took the time to implement. This was definitely the devs dream game and they actually managed to materialize it

Im trying to map out the areas in my head too
I went back to try to find the lift to the portal world to get some anteverse wheat and ended up re exploring all of offices till I found it again.
I just did the whole forge area, military crossroads, maintenance west, mines, and now i gotta trade the forge guy to get the pumps online. Wasted a ton of healing items clearing every military guy and alien out of the area with green goo leaking radiation or whatever and the item I need to fix it or open something I cant even craft yet, probably some story thing later. And found no silver whatsoever, only found steel wires
The game is kind of stressful in a frustrating way to the point where I take frequent breaks to chill out. I dont like having to go for just computer components on a gathering run and target specific crap and then go have to do another to go find steel wire/anvils/military tech or some shit and then realize I need to kill 3 more robots and why did I fall asleep at night.

>>717416594I'd recommend setting a "main" base further out into the plaza beyond the security guy Warren. Specifically left of the fountain there is a smaller plaza leading towards wildlife pens. It's closer to the trams and the door to pens leads to cascade labs once you open it from other side. A major shortcut there.
Though you'd need to set up some defences against the night time robot, because it can wander close and aggores on your barricades and stuff when it sees them. Something to do later when you do need to expand and have more space for things like slightly larger farm plots and bigger storage crates.
Your little nook in the cafeteria security works fine for now.

Hope you like wheat farming.
At this point, you can make an actual water filter and that thing is crazy efficient, so it gets much more tolerable to set up a bunch of farms, and it's very worth it.
Anywhere to find an extra refrigerator ? There's one I'm using in offices 3rd floor and the one that was on the ground floor is missing.
>>717419020My friend and I have been playing perfectly fine. We're even replaying it and still taking our time going through all the stuff we did before. Been trudging through the labs with our base above the wildlife pens aquarium for a few days now.
>>717420380You can package the fridge in Flathills syrup company and it respawns upon portal resets.
Later on you'll get a furniture store PW that has different color fridges.

You can butcher some stuff from the fish on chef's counter, like fishbones to make glue soup (coughpeccaryheadcough) or quills and black oil.
Or you can scrap the fish for bio scrap.
Fishing can also give random junk scrap like tech or coffee mugs. There is even a special equipment you can craft to only catch worthless junk.

>>717424805Well once you get makeshift teleporters it becomes better I think? I know I for sure haven't used it for that exact reason.
>>717427056Just set it to max, you'll need to grind some either way
>>717424805performance in there is mega shit (thanks ue5) so no i never even considered it
>>717427136Handheld teleporters must be synced to a crafting bench and teleport you right in front of it. So early on you can make a ghetto teleporter network with multiple crafting benches and hand teles around the map.
Later on you get actual portals you can craft and place anywhere. With these setting up a base anywhere (like Torii) is way more practical since you can set up a proper portal network and never have to use the dock portal ever again.
>>717364935 (OP)Is this game new DRG on /v/? Threads of that game used to be so comfy back in the day. I just want something that I can lose myself in for a while and have been eyeing this game.

>>717428443You have access to everything you need to make them. You're probably missing the CPUs from the Labs security bots, the ones that are a tier up from the Office/Manufacturing bots. >>717428865You can set it to public if you'd like, and you can also have it set to private but still share the lobby code with others to join.
But due to the nature of the game, whoever's hosting the world "owns" the save file to that specific world. So if they stop playing then the server stops. It is possible to set up dedicated servers if you want.

Help me out, I can't find the entrance to the reservoir in the Hydroplant
Also do I really need to craft the neutrino emitter for the other task there
I keep seeing Voices of the Void mentioned, is it something worth looking into as a fan of this game? Is it similar at all?
>>717429293Some anon in a previous thread pointed out that they don't aggro laser emitters so you can put them down to hit them while patrolling and they'll die for free. The problem is you have to put them somewhere they can't get blown up by the self-destruct, and the lasers don't really like being unloaded when nobody's in the area.
It's free farming if you have reason to hang out in Hydroplant, I guess.
They do kinda just suck. I think the game is much better up until around maybe Security - Hydroplant, then starts to suffer from a less coherent game-plan, narrower, more linear area design, and wonkier combat tuning. It's still good, but I feel like they didn't have as firm a grounding in what they wanted to do and how to balance the progression from around that that point, and it shows pretty hard.
The game could perhaps benefit from them taking a step back from adding new stuff to go through and adjust how strong weapons and enemies are, making sure none of them are egregiously bugged, and maybe either making the numbers a bit more steeply curved or making things more "equal but with niches" with weaknesses or whatever.
As it is, you just use whatever until the grinder until the deatomizer, with a side of slush and poop grenades for anything you struggle with. Anything else might be more fun but is probably strictly worse.
>>717430886I feel Hydroplant was the last area where their level design was really locked in, Reactors and Residences just feel like they were slapped together, unnecessarily large and without the clear forethought and care for layout the other zones had. I was never a tenth as interested in exploring either zone as what gripped me in labs.
>>717430884It's a fun horror game where you're a scientist in the woods, but the fandom is a trashfire of streamer worshipers. The game itself loves to add meme references of popular streamers who play it
