The remake removed the depth out of reloading. In the original reliadingvat the wrong time could mean death since you were stationary and couldn't cancel out of it. It created a relationship of risk in the gameplay. But thanks to the remake allowing you to move out of harm's way even while reloading, there's no longer any risk associated with reloading. It's now nothing more than a momentary halt in the action.

Remake will be forgotten in a few years anyway because it's a generic over the shoulder shooter with no personality. Meanwhile RE4 will still be remembered and played 20 years from now.

while that's generally true, it's also off set by the fact that enemies are much faster than they were before. they don't just come lumbering at you with the pace of the fastest geriatric home sprinter, they'll close the gap and if you're too comfortable with where you are you're gonna get raped. by and large, it's 95% the same game, so movement is still important, although I do think it's a bit ridiculous that you can parry a fucking chainsaw.

once you learn that shotguns literally stunlock every enemy in the game the difficulty completely evaporates

also fact: reloading in the OG doesn't get interrupted if you get hit after the animation starts, once a whole second passes the ammo is replenished

I never found it be that much of a problem. with the way re4 is paced at a basic level, deaths being rare and something you should be able to avoid, having a last ditch save move seems fine. getting in a spot where an unreliable prompt can autokill you and losing one of your most valuable tools isn't a condition you're going to manufacture to exploit.

no. the way horror games are designed with abundant healing items and telegraphed threats makes death just inherently more uncommon. and a saving throw move less disruptive.
