I wasn't expecting to love the console this much. My love of gaming has been renewed and I'm playing more than ever. It's no surprise that both Microsoft and Sony are going to make handheld hybrids next.

Some of those Switch games are absolute bangers, like Mario Odyssey and Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. I'm thinking about getting Kirby Forgotten Land when it rereleases this month.

I hadn't touched my switch in months. I've played my 2 every day since I got it. Thinking about picking up some switch 1 stuff I skipped.

I mean, it actually has some horsepower compared to the original switch that was more akin to a tablet than actual game console

I got mine yesterday. After skipping the Switch 1, I was fully expecting to use it in docked mode 100% of the time. But after getting my hands on it, it being so much larger than the first one actually makes it more comfortable to hold, and the bigger screen is more immersive. I don't know what black magic they used for those speakers, too.

There are a few shortcomings such as the lesser battery life (which was expected tbf and still average compared to portable devices with similar power, and it's likely to be fixed on the eventual OLED model years later) and a few third-party ports that could really benefit from being upgraded (they're slowly coming in like Romancing Saga 2 remake, Yakuza Kiwami and DQ3HD). But overall it's a big upgrade over the first Switch which was already my main gaming machine back then.

My biggest gripe behind the battery life if the abysmal internal storage. They were just as stingy as they were in 2017, but now you need a more expensive microSD card. Sometimes I've felt compelled to impulse purchase a game only to see the filesize and decide that I can't spare the space. Really horrible generation to introduce fake physical games.

ever had a Gameboy or PSP? this is like that but as powerful as an Xbox Series X or something, it alternates between handheld and television, you can play your games a lot of different ways. Like in your hands, or you can prop it on a table with the kickstand and detach the joycon controllers lean back and play, or attach the joycons to the controller accessory and it forms a regular controller. It's the variety in how you can play games that is a huge appeal. Just mentioning graphics or framerates misses the whole point by miles.

Weird fanboying over a system that doesnt have any games or standout features in its current state.
Id understand thinking that stuff like the 3DS were charming, with its menus, minigames and music, but not the Switch2, with its utter lack of novelty.

Same. Wife and I got one preordered and received it at launch. Games she wouldn't touch on PC like Yakuza and Shitsona she's now hooked on. I replayed Odyssey and am working through Tears of a Kingdom and Bananza. Love it. Just wish the screen was OLED. Got us both the Skull & Co. StandGrip grip case for it and the console is infinitely more comfy to use and still extremely slim with the top cover for transport. Got some beefy stick toppers for them to from the same brand (the mid size concave ones) and now the sticks feel great. Loving it. I wish Nintendo would just allow us to emulated Switch 1 docked mode in handheld with the Switch 2 so we don't have to wait on patches for everything.

Both my wife and I have played the Switch 2 more in the last month than we have our Steamdecks in the past year+. Though launch year we did use it a lot. They mostly exist as media clients in our livingroom and bedroom to receive and decode our 200TB media server filled with remux HDR10+/DV video with 7.1 atmos audio in our atmos setups in the livingroom and bedroom. Luckily they still have a purpose so it doesn't feel like a waste of money. Valve really propelled Linux for end users by a century. Before they started contributing to the Plasma Project proper HDR support was a pipe dream.

>My biggest gripe behind the battery life if the abysmal internal storage
eeh the internal 256GB is not bad, it's more being restricted with the current Express cards at 256GB / 512GB for now. But at the same time, this forces me to actually play the large-sized games instead of just leaving them installed but untouched. L.A. Noire costs nearly 30GB on Switch but it's something I will uninstall once I'm fully done with it

I'm also enjoying the current batch of Switch 2 games, between Shine Post (pic related - it's more of an idol company management game), Kunitsugami (tower defense), Fast Fusion (fzero clone), Yakuza Zero (something I have played a long time ago but wanted to redo again - the new cutscenes are ass tho), Donkey Kong Bananza. Gonna do the SW2 edition of Romancing Saga 2 remake later.

The best games on Switch are indie games. Or "slop" as you call them since you only enjoy AAA movie games. I prefer gameplay over movies.
