Does scumvm count? Legend of Kyrandia. But when I finished the maze, I got so made at the stupid potion puzzle that I raged quit. I hate adventure games that waste your time. I'm not even talking about having stupid puzzles, I mean having tedious stuff like mazes or fetching ingredients for potions.

Be honest with me bros. Should I opt for a HDD or a SSD? I've heard that SSD's can lose data when unplugged for long periods of time and that HDD does not have to worry about any of that. Which should I buy if my main concern is just storing games for the long run?

I vaguely remember seeing a report from some data center suggesting that SDDs actually live longer than HDDs, at least in their use case.
>SSD's can lose data when unplugged for long periods of time
I mean sure if you're planning on leaving it without power for years then go for HDD I guess, otherwise I wouldn't bother with spinning rust.

i think it depends on if you write new data on it a lot. if you save files on it once and dont delete and save new files all the times, sdds are probably better but you should take what i say with a grain of salt. i am not 100% sure. i read a lot about that stuff but if you dont use the knowledge you forget it after a while. the most important thing i think is to have several sdd or hdd in some kind of nas and run them in RAID 1. this way you are mirroring them and if one of them dies, you still have the others and can replace the dead storage

Going to buy faraday bags and a climate control cabinet on ebay next week for storage. From what I understand external hard drives only last 4-5 years, 10 years under good conditions. So I'm going to have to get on a regular schedule for back ups. But if the internet goes to shit in the next year I should be good. Just gotta stay consistent.

Even before the ID stuff the internet has generally become unusable. The biggest mistake was letting the third world gain access and subsequently have corpos ruin the ease of use of it. People are saying m.2/Nvme/SSD lasts x amount of time or "longer then HDD" but it really isn't tested because no ssd has lasted as long as hard drives have. My sata ssd has lasted me 10 years so far but I've only got my nvme a year ago so I can't say. Hard drives on the other hand seem to be indefinite I have a 20 year old one that works fine AND even if it does stop working the data is easily recovered unlike both types of ssd's that lose data forever when they break. My advice is your dumb to not have one but get a sdd for everything else

Also on the topic of ssd's did you know there's actually 2 types of m.2's? Dram ssd's and dramless ssds. Dram sdds are better but can get hotter, they write and read fast where as dramless ssds only read fast

The lifespans are based on the manufacturer's specs for the flash modules. The "Gen5 m.2 nvme" spec might be a lot newer than SATA, but it's not like a modern SATA drive is using 10 year old flash designs. Any drive that's manufactured today is using whatever modules meet the specs they dictate and whether it's a "10 years and still going" or a "6 months and already dead" is largely unrelated to the technology that connects it to the PC.
And funnily enough when HDDs got really reliable it was actually the fancy controller modules in front of the mechanical parts that died. And we do that with SSD too because it's only if you're apple that you put the flash controller into your CPU.

The big problem with plain old RAID 1 is that it doesn't properly protect you against corruption. If something gets silently corrupted due to a bug in something or some random glitch the RAID system has no way of knowing which copy is the correct one.
ZFS mirroring has checksums as part of its metadata so it DOES know.
RAID5 or RAID6 can detect and repair corruption but you're talking 3/4 drive minimums respectively.

An extremely important thing to know is that RAID is for UPTIME, *not* backup. RAID != backup is a meme, yes, but the thing to understand is that if no one is going to care that your data is unavailable for a time while you dig out the backups then RAID is a waste of money, electricity and heat.

Not only that, but it helps the drive keep the data refreshed. We're storing digital data in a fundamentally analog medium so the drive knows if any data it's reading is marginal in some way and will automatically rewrite or reallocate it without you even knowing. If the drive is idle it'll do this automatically in its own time, but if you're actively reading your important files periodically it speeds up the process while doing something useful.

If everything was easy and accesible I would gladly play, but you fatasses sit on it like squatters so you leave me no choice, hard gay.

My copium is that I'm secretly hoping you're right. But I know deep down inside of me that this isnt the case this time.
Whats more a more concerning thing that no-one's talking about is how 5 years from now the internet is going to be 90% AI. AI websites, AI assistants in everything, no actual content itll be AI generated on-the-fly to cater to whatever marketing tactic the AI has determined is working most optimally today for the best ads.

Shit's only going to get worse.
And worse part is legally, you cant "not" use the internet in this day and age. You basically HAVE to use it.

Just like someone who uses cash everyone assumes is a drug dealer or lowlife, people look at you funny for saying you dont use the internet or social media.
Whats that? You DONT have an Instagram account and post 5 photos a day telling us what you did? How could you?

This is just society now, and its all our fault for letting normies onto the internet.

Nice paperweight:
-Bit rot will destroy your data slowly since you have so much shit on it to notice when the strot stars happening.
-Windows,Mac and linux will scan every single thing you run or own on your pc in the future so you won't be able to use anything you stored.
-Modern hardware will be made impossible to work with older version of linux/windows

Hoarding is a mental disease, stop it and buy your games like a normal person.

its been coming back in a big way too.
I work in a hotel and everyone (guests, staff, locals) pirates shit now and shares it on external drives and USBs.
And these are extreme normies too, like they wouldnt know where you can even pirate shit on the internet and only just bought their first external drive level of normies.

I still think that ssd's are a much better cold storage solution than hdd's.
With ssd's you easily start seeing failure past the first 8 tb.Plus, they degrade slowly. Hdd's are completely random and crap out on you in any given moment.
Also the heat is a huge problem for anything below 15tb.

I didn't know Thomas was Alone and Overwatch had a CD release. Did you like those two that much? I'm especially confused about Overwatch: now you got a useless CD. I understanding wanting Bloodborne or JSRF as CDs, those are single player games. But what's the point in getting the CD for a game that is multiplayer focused, if it's not the 90s where CDs where the vehicle to play games from?
Which of the xbox games you liked the most? I've a Playstation/Nintendo/PC kid, so I never venture into the Xbox world. I'm curious on your thoughts on the console. I only played JSRF.
