They are very strong in one specific type of motion... however anything beyond that motion will be very weak or they may not even able to perform it at all. Pure fingers being able to do all these fancy movements means a lot of our hand muscle fibers are reserved for moving the fingers in different directions rather than giving them strength.
I.e. Apes are strong at pushing something, but once they need to pull something in they will fail.
Humans managed to turn this "weakness" into a strength... by inventing weapons which directly scale our dexterity into strength again and in an exponential manner, too.
Someone/-thing who had only strength and zero dexterity couldn't even wield a club, basically.
