I use tweaks so that way, if I want to be able to reach 100 barter/speech, I actually have to invest in charisma. Right now with my charisma and luck, the max I can have in either is 85, which means I won't be able to talk myself out of fighting Ulysses/Lanius/Oliver.

Anyone who tells a new player to use any mods beyond bug fixes and utilities is a retard, yes. JSMU / Vigor / Lone Star / [insert other fork here] is appreciated because it makes the game a bit more difficult by reducing inventory weight and cutting the level cap so you can't get all of the good perks and horde items, or you need to burn a few perks on weight-management perks like Pack Rat or Strong Back. There's also improvements to how items are named and read, which is a huge boon.

For me, it's about immersion. A weight limit of about 90lbs is more reasonable to me than 200lbs.
