looks so bad and it's taking the worst design aspects from Silent Hill 2 (which killed the series) rahter than the first game (which jump started the series). Namely, slow enemies and slow combat.
You should be facing off against animalistic enemies who gang up on you and want you dead. There should be a whole zoo up against you rather than slow humanoids.

That enemy is clearly derived from Sh2's mannequin as well.

It's immersion breaking in Silent Hill and it evaporates the horror aspect which is the central aspect in Silent Hill. Ninja dashing around and having action game-tier hitstun looks incredibly stupid in Silent Hill and it's NOT SCARY.

DD, DMC and MH all have short hitstuns on light attacks and longer hitstuns on heavy hitting attacks. SHF has long-ass hitstuns on everything, it's terrible.

listen, faggot, you're taking this series and transforming it into something unrecognizable. I'm all for innovation but this ain't it. I'm not the biggest fan of this franchise, but I did play 1 and 2, and even I could tell you that the devs for this game are missing the point. silent hill itself is supposed to be this oppressive, foreboding, and atmospheric realm that reflects the darkest elements of the main character's inner psyche. you can't win against something like that in any conventional way (i.e. physical combat). instead, you need to navigate its horrors and face the darkest elements of yourself that inevitably proliferate from the cursed grey fog.

arguably, the entire experience may be one huge hallucination. it's supposed to be a mindfuck; a little bit of a thriller, a little bit psychological horror, and a little bit survival horror. this? this is a creatively bankrupt attempt at making something that adheres to design trends of the last decade or so.

you people say you hate soulslop but this is by far a more egregious example of fromsoft having negative influence on the industry, and you can't even blame them for it.

They haven't known what to do after the original director has left. The new team made a very artistic sequel, but it actually led to decreased sales (it built up a fanbase over time). They panicked and made a very action focused part 3 but the sales didn't recover. Then they outsourced it to retards. nOw they're outsourcing it to Japanese retards.

I think they should have just brought Keiichiro Toyama and Sony together. Say: Look, let's make a new Silent Hill, let's use a Konami or Sony engine for it, let's make it multi-plat, make it solid liek the old days.

SIREN DID have a big budget. So did the Gravity Rush games. Nobody bought them.

SH1 is not his best actually.
Still great, but every work after SH1 is far more ambitious and interesting than what he was attempting there. SH1's narrative is primarily focused on a handful of interesting ideas, like
>Loss of a loved one
>Cults and abuse of women within them (big issue in Japan at the time and to this day)
>Power structures and corruption
And all the ideas are handled great, they're all integrated well, but he just does more things better in later games.
Slitterhead is just his best work because it shows how much he's evolved, where a game can essentially completely lack voice acting or the intense amounts of detail and openness all his prior games had, but the writing and how that interacts with the gameplay carry it forward to an absurd degree.

You just said why this looks shit without even realizing it. Silent Hill is supposed to be a survival horror series not a fucking action game. The game looks decent outside of this really shitty unfitting combat. I am not sure why they don't just go back to the combat from SH 1-4. That would work perfectly fine for these games even today. I don't want to be juking like a fucking boxer in a boxing match or rolling like its dark souls.
