I feel like an issue that Elder Scrolls would run into to is the cultural shift that has happened since the time Skyrim came out. The world is more diverse, having Nords be such a prominent story arc wouldn't work today.

To finish my point, I can see a situation where Elder Scrolls would end up being accused of being too woke, or too racist. There would end up being some big negative push due to representation or problematic plotlines or something. Elder Scrolls would end up getting pulled into the culture war somehow. The games have always had a high amount of perceived racism, classism, etc. If they do it "wrong" they could end up in hot water. Consider how in Fallout they added pride flags to their retrofuturist 1950s world. They can't help themselves. Maybe its too dangerous for them to risk?

The game is undoubtedly in development hell and is probably getting all of its charm shaken out of it by executives as we speak. Not only are the RPG mechanics going to be even simpler than Skyrim, any potential severity and bite the story could have is getting rusted down to be as bitchmade as possible.

Let's not forget that this game has to be open world and they're probably trying to make whatever region the game takes place in even larger than the previous games in terms of scale.
