Post games where the best part is the OST and it's not close at all. To the point where they probably should have just made an album and left the "game" part out. Pic related.

But the OST in Mario Kart World is overrated because it's just professionally recorded rearrangements of songs in the Mario IP that isn't even Mario Kart-related.
It feels like hootenanny.

Why does the open world feel so pointless? Why did they implement intermissions, a cool idea on paper, so badly?
Also the bullshit AI killed all my hype while trying to get 3stars. I don't know if they fixed it in any of the patches or not but I feel it permanently ruined my perception of the game.

OST in MKW isn't anything special though. It's like...elevator music, but racing. Know what I mean?

ANYWAYS, I think the most impressive part of MKW is that it feels like a (small) world, they really nailed that. Everything being interconnected is pretty cool actually. Overall THAT isn't really impressive though because video games have had worlds/world maps for decades, all MKW did was rope off some hallways that you travel down, know what I mean?

But I digress. I like it and I don't know if I could think of a game where the OST is the best part. If the music is the best part of the game, I probably quit playing the game before I could experience the music fully because that would mean the game is very subpar.

Games should start doing the "buy our official soundtrack" thing more often. Typically I don't care enough about what I'm seeing with a game to spend $70+ dollars for them, but if they release the soundtrack and make that a standalone purchase they'll at least have a chance to get some money out of me.

Becuase by this point it should be obvious to anyone that MonolithSoft (the Xenoblade devs who Nintendo boughted) are seen as the Golden Goose because of Breath of the Wild, and they're pushed to make Open World by the corporation no matter how little the devs actually cared for it or not. In the Ask The Devs for MKW I got the impression the Nintendo-side devs (the Mario Kart Team) got annoyed with the way Xenoblade's team worked, and the two groups didn't work well together.

It's just really stupid. Can Nintendo make any of their old franchises without forcing a completely untraditional mode over it anymore? I think this comes back to the quote in 2021 when the new Nintendo CEO said "I want the developers to experiment."
I think he's gotten told by people on the dev side like Shinya Takahashi and a lot of younger devs that they wanna zoom zoom and not be beholden to expected Nintendo formulas, and unlike Iwata he just heard that and was like "Yeah do it."
A significant quote from Iwata I spotted was from an Iwata Asks about Zelda Skyward Sword. By then they had started talking about maybe dropping some features that were tying Zelda down as a series, but Iwata said "You can never get rid of the Da-na-na-naaa! when you pick up treasures, it's too iconic."

Well guess what, they dropped it in BotW.

Ex-cactly. It just feels like a "Spotify Playlist" as an OST. It doesn't accentuate every visual in the game like each track does in MK8.

I do like some of the work they put into 8, don't get me wrong. But as a whole I find myself not playing for long sessions because everything is so fucking "boisterous" and like someone else said "Metal Cafe". It could just be an anime thing. like, my anime friend always shows me 4 or 5 new anime when I visit him, and I've noticed all the latest stuff has extremely loud and sort of "early 2000s" vibes, where it's trying really hard to be edgy and aggressive sounding. Even the main theme in Mario Kart World kind of sucks and it actively annoys me.
But I think it's Nintendo's image in general that's starting to have this more "corporate" feel. In the recent Nintendo Partner direct, the opening also has such a
>He-heeyyy fellas~
>We're Nintendo, baby, check us out!
Like, where is that charmingly detuned whistling that they used to have in all their music? Where's that sort of doe-eyed, knowingly childish attitude that still spoke to all ages? I don't wanna see a fucking "Corporate Marketing Division" version of Nintendo.

You’ve genuinely lost it if you think this soundtrack has a corporate feel to it. It has more expression from the performers than basically any before it. It leans very hard into its jazz influences in that way. But there’s also a huge variety of genres and tempos, many slower arrangements, so there’s plenty that wouldn’t feel “boisterous”
Anonymous No.717878353 >>717879037

I don't get a very "proud" feeling listening to most of the OST. I get a "holy shit the show must go on, next song. OK, done! I know, We're terrific musicians and know our shit. Phew. NEXT SONG" feeling from it.
It's Quantity > Quality.
And yes, I know all of it is actually quality. real work put into it. But it is just kind of a "skilled musicians play hootenanny on existing songs". It's like watching Scary Pockets covers on YouTube or something.

Same, anon. Dude actually gave a shit. You could feel his presence in everything Nintendo pushed out-even when stuff didn’t work, there was that charm, that soul. Now it feels like everyone’s moving on autopilot. Iwata was like the last guy in the room going “what makes this fun?” before some suit turned the lights off.

I hate the sort of shit you posted. Listened to a few, and they put very little spin on the shit they cover. Very little regard thought for what the song could be and instead just put through the filter of their musical predilections. That’s not at all the case for World’s soundtrack. The fact there’s an EDM Baby Park and a butt rock Buoy Bass Galaxy proves your little fanfic of quotes is misguided

Mario Kart World annoys me the most because it feels like wasted potential to the maximum.
How cool would it have been to have boss battles out in the open world? Or challenges by Mario NPC people? Like you see a giant Wiggler, run into it, and then he challenges you to another side of the map? Or you see an NPC kart racer roaming around the map, who you can then challenge to a special race. You want to beat Nabbit in a race? Then race Nabbit around a track 3 laps while he has unlimited access to items to unlock him. You want that cool ROB bike? Then find some random NPC on the top of DK Spaceport that is chilling on it, and race them to the bottom of DK Spaceport with more obstacles in the way. How fun would that be? You'd get to do fun stuff while unlocking cool stuff. It's open world so of course you'd be encouraged to explore. It would really bring its title to full circle: Mario Kart WORLD, because you explore the WORLD of Mario Kart.
BUT NO WE CAN'T HAVE THAT HERE'S STUPID STICKER FOR YOUR KART YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO SEE, THIS IS YOUR REWARD FOR FLYING THROUGH RINGS IN THE AIR IN LESS THAN A MINUTE

I didn't like the OST very much, it wasn't very engaging in a kart racing game.
My favorite part of MKW were the visuals and some of the character designs, but I still prefer MKDD's saturated, unbothered colors over Nintendo's obsession with VFX.

>Why did they implement intermissions, a cool idea on paper, so badly?
How are intermissions "cool" on paper? They're by definition boring and lazy.
That's what makes them intermissions and not real tracks.

Not him, I think the "Idea" is "Cool on paper" in the idea of a "The Cannonball Run", the actual issue is ironically connected to the open world in that it just means you don't have many obstacles when "Racing between races" because they are just straight lines between the tracks, and the 1 Lap thing means you never actually feel like you are racing on the actual stages once you reach them between traversal and the fact they practically fucking replaced Standard Grand Prix.

In practice it is also absolutely destroyed by the Item system fucking over frontrunning making like 80% of a Intermission(/Knockout Tour) baiscally pointless because you DON'T want to take the lead until the last second since you are just setting yourself to get screwed if you do.

agree. Grinding is lame cause it's slower than normal racing and usually doesn't lead to a shortcut.
They should have either made grinding faster but you have to maintain a balance meter (so skilled players can go a slight bit faster) or made rails lead to shortcuts more often instead of just being speed traps randomly placed everywhere.
Also could have given cool interactions like making boosting into a rail do a super fast grind that's faster than boosting on ground.
