Education is kind of bullshit, past the phase of learning basic English and Mathematics, and we should probably assign kids basic jobs at the age of like 12 instead, and necessitate that they have to study at least one top of their own choice.
A school could literally just be a factory where kids work for a wage, and that would actually be better for everyone involved, but NOOOOOOO!

Naa, I completely disagree.
The only difference now is that kids don't have any incentive to learn about anything or the attention span to pay attention to it.
I can sit there watching a Cold War documentary for 3 hours without touching my phone. Zoomies and Alphies can't do this, they have tiny attention spans and think that information can be infinitely compressed into short-form content.
And if they have a problem they don't understand? They just ask ChatGPT to tell them the answer. Have you seen these apps like Gauth? They just plug whatever is in front of them into it and wait for it to solve it. And these are top apps on stores.

I genuinely think learning work skills early, and beginning to make a wage early would be infinitely more valuable to most people than being forced to cram facts about history and science when they just don't care.
Let the kids with a passion for history and science focus on that stuff, and let people who don't give a shit do music or art, or just sweep a floor or do retail work.
Honestly, I think it'd be better for people. So many of the problems that come with teenagers are rooted in the fact that they have no control over their lives and are angry that some nerd wants them to sit in a chair and memorise dates and periodic tables all day.

As for sweeping the school gym, you run into a whole host of issues. If the kid doesn't sweep it properly, do you refuse to pay him? If so, bam, you're guilty of child slavery. If it takes him a bit longer to do it without a break? Bam, you've run afoul of labour laws. Kid trips and breaks his ankle? Insurance, lawsuits and a field day for the media about how dangerous your school is.
You cannot apply simple solutions to complex problems.

School till you're twelve learning English and maths to a respectable level and other subjects till you have a passable level of knowledge with them. You should at least be able to give a basic explanation of historical events and other esoteric fields of knowledge.
Then at thirteen you can apprentice for jobs or seek further education. Algebraic mathematics, more in depth education in esoteric subjects and a thorough introduction to science.
Then at fifteen you can apply for an apprenticeship with a wider selection of jobs, or seek higher education. At seventeen you can seek an apprenticeship in specialised work or collegiate education.
Provide vocational education availability and you now have an education system where people can opt out when they've reached a level they're happy with, and with an avenue for work in something they're interested in, and opt back in if they want to aim higher.
