Demon's Souls is a joke of a game.
So many things about it are broken, it was basically a beta test.
In my experience, the people who champion it over later, better games are stuck in a kind of arrested development PS3-loyalist phase.

Are you implying I am nostalgic? I played Demon's Souls in 2025. Literally my first Souls game I ever played. I just finished it last weekend and am now starting Dark Souls. How can I be nostalgic about something I just got done playing?

It's a fully functioning game. What are you talking about? Name one thing that's genuinely broken. Yes, Valley of Defilement is piss-easy, when you have the adjudicator +5 shield and a regenerator ring. But by the time you get to it, you should have an inventory full of the anti-poison remedy. The game wasn't afraid to make you OP. The only thing that's sad is the unfinished level and puzzle bosses like Dragon God.

I can relate to that. Maneater was a very big hurdle. I only played the game on-and-off for weeks, while I was stuck on him. I eventually just said "fuck it", played online on the archstone server to make use of the user controlled world tendency system and then went human form for full HP with plenty of turpentine to boost my longsword even more.

That was the hardest part of the game. After this everything else was relatively easy, because I kept making use of the game's systems, got a crushing knight sword + 5 and just melted the rest of the bosses of the game. Maximizing damage is not just very satisfying, but also a very good approach to these games. I could have done even more and used my knight sword only for the level and used an upgraded two-handed only for bosses.

You can cheese Flamelurker using the terrain in his boss room.
Armor Spider is literally just a wall that can't even move, and thus is easily cheesed.
Dirty Colossus can be cheesed using the terrain in his boss room.
In fact, every single boss in the game can be cheesed except Penetrator, who is incredibly easy anyway.
Mechanics that apply to the player don't apply to human enemies for no reason (case in point, the Maneater Mildred phantom in Valley of Defilement)
World Tendency and its implementation - the fact that it shifts towards the server average upon logging in means you will always be around the grey middle instead of pure black and pure white, which you have to play offline to achieve.

This is just off the top of my head, there are a shit ton MORE glitches, bugs and shoddy programming I experienced when playing it, but I gotta go to work.

Not relevant for players, who played the game blind like you are supposed to with fromsoft games.

That's the entire point of the boss. You can also just wear the brushwood armor and the purple dragon shield and kill him, while fat-rolling, because you take almost no damage from all of his attacks. No cheese needed, just straight up facetank. As long as you are prepared well, you can beat any boss.

Or you know, Dirty Colossus can just be defeated straight-up just by tapping him a few times with your well-upgraded weapon, which you should definitely have by then.

Oh yeah, it was really annoying how she wasn't affected by the swamp at all. That made it difficult.

I mean, yeah that was fucked up, but you just deal with that. I don't remember exactly what I did. I think you just go behind him. After that you return to the nexus, repair everything. It only costs souls and a bit of time.

I would classify most of this as jank, not as broken. Broken would be something like Dungeon Lords, where you can pause the game at any time, but it's not a real pause, it instead just freezes the movement of all enemies, so you can just regenerate to full hp with the click of a button and a bit of time.

Demon's souls is the best souls game. It's sad that too many people only play on base NG and brute force everything with builds they picked up on youtube. NG+ is so much better because the enemies WILL brute force (You), unless you are prepared for everything, like you should be.
