I just wanted a fun game in the FF7 universe and that’s what I got. I didn’t want the remake to literally replace the OG. That shit would have never worked out. We see in the flashback that he was literally outside Midgar station on the floor in a mess, basically falling apart, till Tifa by chance happens to run into him which makes him immediately pull himself back together just because he doesn't want to look uncool in front of his crush.

Cloud is already heavily poisoned so when Sephiroth mindbreaks his will he can't keep it toegether anymore, just keeps getting further poisoned which is why he's in such a sorry state in Advent Children. Tifa relatively just took one dip in the pool which is why her side effects aren't that noteworthy.

For reference: Cloud barely clinging on before the events of the game even start.

In the og, yes, the moment is really cool, but it is more focused on what actually happened and thats it. Its like a mistery being solved.
Now with remake and rebirth, its not only about the mistery being solved. Since the remake has done so good with the characters dynamics that you dont only care about how the sequence will be, but how will Cloud himself react. How Tifa will react. How the characters will react. How Cloud changes, his tone, his posture, if he unlocks a new ability. How tifa reacts at Clouds speech about accepting himself. How his relationships change with the rest of the crew.

FF7 sequel set 500 or more years in the future. New characters, new villains, new story. We only meet Vincent at one point, and old Red XIII, who dies at some point of the story of old age.

That was one of the biggest fuckups with the remake.
In the original people talked about him and remarked how scary he was, but you didn't even see what he looked like till the second disc flashback. The slowburn was perfect.

i know you strictly mean remake/rebirth, but fuck off regardless. and yes, the combat system of the remake stuff isn't bad by itself, but virtually everything else surrounding it is kind of miserable bullshit. repeating dungeons with incredibly clumsy and slow traversal sequences, basic puzzles that don't have much thought, "push the tray, drag the plug!", memorization/reflex QTEs, chocobos turned into an arbitrary per-region exploration tool that becomes an absolute nightmare by gongaga, the list goes on.

Remake was at least an 8/10 for me. There was very little I didn't enjoy.
Rebirth, if the story segments didn't exist, would be a 9/10. With the story segments, it's a 4/10.

Ever Crisis and dev interviews (accidentally?) spelled out that Remake Sephiroth at his core is basically a kid that wants to be a hero in the genuine sense and save people, but everything he went through broke him of any sense of morality about it into "ends justify the means", hence the creating numerous split timeline worlds trying to find the best result he possibly can to rule over. It's probably less that he's gonna be a good guy all along, and more that we're gonna reach him, fight him, have an escalation beyond Safer Sephiroth, and then have the sympathetic sob story bullshit as Cloud finally lets go of his revenge to just mercy him or something even if it still has to defeat Sephiroth for things to continue onwards.

Yes, theres an aspect of sephiroth wanting to break the cycle of life and "do good" because he thinks hes the chosen one, but hes not trying to split the timeline or anything like that.
He wants to be god and rule over the planet, and he does it by creating the promise land, a place where everyone is happy and delusional (where the real is fake, where the fake is real, where cloud can live with aerith forever, where zack doesnt die, etc), nobody knows whats real and what isnt and everyone is delusional. He can rule with jenova forever, creating eternity and not letting the cycle of life get in the middle of it. He will never dissimilate into, neither cloud, the party or anyone. Its not for good intentions, its all about being a dictator and taking everyone under his mantle against everyone's will. You can extrapolate that into thinking this is just food for jenova since the promise land creates fake lifestream energy that Jenova can feed on, born from hatred, regret, guilt, and negative emotions in general.
In other words, Sephiroth and aerith represent two opposite themes: dwell in the past forever or let it go. Eternity vs mortality. Hatred vs forgiveness. Keep seething vs move on.

So no, hes not gonna be good. He has a reasoning, but that doesnt make him good.

They need to find a way to delete all copies of the original from existence.
