I literally only have one speed sr card (Eishin flash) and no other speeds, I have a million guts and wit cards though. Without borrowing the kita card I doubt I'd even be able to get my dipshit horses to B rating and I can barely get B+ if I get a god-tier run without tons of negative events. Does gold ship mode raise spark rates or something? I've gotten 2 3* during my coin runs and it took me like 150 runs and another 30 runs to get my first two before she started treating us like strippers.

Cafe has good initial friendship and specialty priority for when you need more stam that just Creek. Even at LB3 you're beating MLB Creek for spec prio, but Maestro is the game changer regardless
Mayo has Focus and provides skill points so would win out for skills, but 0 starting friendship so longer to get online, and shows up for rainbows less often after that

Same here. There's 220 umas on the JP version and the overwhelming majority of them are 3 stars. Assuming I like only 15% of them that's still 33 horses I need to roll 200 pulls for.
That's not even counting the support cards. I was willing to put up with 1 hour dailies during the week and 2-3 hours per day in weekends to train better horses for races, but being forced to work with characters I don't like is a deal-breaker.

At the end of every career your uma gets a random spark of any stat from 1 to 3 stars, when you use that uma as an inspiration you get bonus of that stat and bonus stats each inspiration event (depending on the rarity of your spark) the real kicker is that you also inherit the sparks of your parents so you get up to a total of 3 sparks in a single uma so for example a veteran with a 3* speed spark with both parents with 3* speed sparks would colloquially be called a 9* speed, considering you can use two parents you can get up to 18* speed giving you a whooping 120+ initial speed and a bunch more every inspiration event

the things that affect your rank are stats and skills. the stats scale exponentially, so like hitting 1200 speed gives way more total rank points than hitting 1100. there are different thresholds for this. skills are rated something like
