>have you played idk...Devil May Cry?
the layered tragedies in DMC3 are unironically good writing cosplaying as goofy fun.
TLOU 1 and 2 both have incredibly standard, vapid "prestige TV show" writing in that it was a part of "human selfishness and attachments are The REAL monster here, except it's WHAT MAKES US HUMAN AFTER ALL" zombie genre fiction after a long series of quirky zombie pastiche movies.
TLoU isn't "bad" but there's very little that elevates it in my eyes. TLoU 2 on the other hand oversteps into pretentious garbage in its discussion of revenge. That and Ellie acts in ways that constantly betray her character up to that point (ie freeing Abby).
In contrast, Dante and Vergil are characters scarred by their mother's murder and father's legacy who have bombastic but consistent ways of coping. Dante kills demons and hides his dysfunctional personality through goofy kitsch culture, and Vergil (the one who actually watched their mom die helplessly) maniacally and foolishly seeks power so that nobody can ever make him feel powerless. They change over time but never betray their trauma. I can't say the same for TLoU
Both TLoU games are completely uninspired TPS's with craftables like noisemakers and modular upgrade paths for weapons that all have the same gamefeel. People would have a problem if the production value were lower. Normies don't complain if their video game looks like a playable HBO show (lol, lmao @ the literal HBO adaptation)
