World's team keeps trying to chase the live-service dragon and smooth out all the rough patches in Monster Hunter's gameplay loop and it's just not doing it. Smooth Low Rank is fine. Smooth High Rank is not fine. Rise's level of difficulty was and is fine, especially with it leading into the grindathon rather naturally. Monster Hunter is not a game made for fucking dailies.

Lol, most 9* hunts average around 15-17 minutes now. And that's with lackluster DPS weapons like Lance. Yes, monsters have a gorillion health, but the hunters are so much more powerful than they were in HR World or Rise.

The beta was always based on an older build. It's better to use the 2nd run of the benchmark to determine how the game might perform for you. In any case, not much different from the benchmark. They said by the end of the year they'll have performance patches ready, but I doubt it will do much.

I think people are starting to put the cart before the horse with all the discussion about difficulty. Not to say it should be easier, but something that has gone to the wayside super hard with the focus on QoL and monster ecology is all the hunter life stuff. Gunner ammo being streamlined out of existence is the most obvious one, but things like map exploration, looking for rare consumable ingredients, etc. have all been QoL'd to death. The reason the classic village hunter setting worked so well for older games is that it added to the feeling that you're just some dude working out of a tiny hamlet that has to be entirely self-sufficient.

I'm not going to lie, I don't really give a shit about endgame content. I don't like the weird ass system you always have to craft randomly generated gear, I don't like grinding investigations, I don't like super duper arch-tempered shitty elder dragon with raid boss mechanics from WoW.
Usually I'll just stop playing when I've defeated the biggest challenge once or twice, I can't be bothered with gear minimax autism.
I like playing through thr story slowly, doing side content when it becomes available, crafting a wide variety of armors and weapons. I like exploring the breadth of challenges in the game, doing all the quests, and trying out different weapons. I like that monster hunter games throw challenge after challenge at me, without retarded endgame grinding, but throughout the whole game.
That's what was missing for me from Wilds. Every armor set or weapon took me like 1-2 hunts. Every hint was piss easy. When I finished the story and went on, all the other content was still piss easy, and honestly there was very little. In addition there was very little reason to play because you finish armor and weapons so quickly).

I stopped Wilds and I don't really have much reason to start it up again, because this touted endgame is not something I even give a shit about to begin with.

I've been saying this sort of thing since World released. The franchise has taken away all incentives to work towards anything substantial, all that's left is incremental increases like decorations or stats. There's no reason to do anything at all. The materials for a full armour set and weapon are 99% done after one hunt, "rare" drops are like candy on the floor because there's like 20+ chances every hunt + a pity system to just buy them outright, monsters are scaled to never require teamwork or decent builds, there's side content that also mitigates the need for grinding, missions are just unlocked after grinding experience instead of progression, etc. While I do personally like the Anomaly Quests in Sunbreak because they attempted to get around this, the design philosophy of the newer games is specifically tailored to be as streamlined as possible. You'll never get the feeling of finally crafting the Zinogre set after hours of farming with people online, it's a different type of game now.

Its rough because I definitely enjoyed not hunting the same dude 80 times for 1 drop. I also barely remember the low rank monsters. I think with lagiacruis they're on the right track. Make the hunts harder so it's not a guaranteed victory.

Item restocks killed monster hunter so hard. The game's difficulty was balanced around being a battle of attrition between you and the monster/s. I didn't grind GQs back in the day, I stopped playing Generations when it was just Hyper monster grinding, I returned to World and Iceborne for the DLC monsters and never bothered wtih tempered or AT anything, and I nary stuck around to anomoly grind in Sunbreak. And it's not that I can't do them, they're just not my idea of fun. I got to chapter 6 of Wilds before stopping because it became clear what I'd be doing for the remainder of the game and I have my HR unlocked and am high enough to take on the DLC monsters when they release so I consider myself officially done. You're not even trading THAT much DPS, because the raw and crit boosts in Wilds are actually spread across a wide number of conditional skills. Like Resentment or Adrenaline Rush. So against Steve you can run DBs, who have an innate buff on perfect dodges, and Adrenaline Rush. Plus you could use Steve's own weapons, which also have perfect dodge interaction. It helps that his feet are a weakspot, so even ankle biter weapons can target them.
