I hope you didn't get any spinters. I've worked on a few benches before, sanding that fucker smooth. Then I use something that raises the unsanded wood grains so I can sand it even smoother. Then I used a water based poly aerosol coat as the base for several coats, then topped with an oil based poly with a nice thick coat that I sanded and reapplied several times. Those benches have lasted a little over ten years now at work and are used every night by people.

I was just in one of those a few weeks ago. Great selection, but I wasn't really able to find hi-top tim pros, which help a lot in environments with a lot of water and shit so your feet stay dry, without having to fumble with laces. I got the right insole so it feels like I'm walking on clouds which is nice.
