I'll say what I said last time this was posted: complaining about critical hits is brainlet shit. Fire Emblem almost always provides reasonable crit rate mitigation tools to the player, and coming from the other side, crit builds are a lot of fun, too. This isn't supposed to be a deterministic game like chess - randomness and risk minimization IS strategy. Critical hits add a literal entire extra dimension to FE's simpl combat and force you to weigh the pros and cons of trading blows with low% crit rates, adding depth to the gameplay.

Activation skills are in a similar boat, but I'm less in favor of them, as they're not core to FE combat, and are more like add-ons. I do think they have a place in FE and can even be quite useful, but they probably shouldn't be too prevalent...which they never have been. Okay in moderation.

A minor str nerf in early game won't stop most doubles from killing, hell my current Corrin can't even double because she got speed fucked out of the blue but Dragon form is good enough for early Lunatic stuff that it doesn't really matter that much. Due to her personal skill she’s a enemy phase unit in a player phase game where HP is always a delicate balance. Personally I like putting heartseeker gamble on her and then switching her back to paladin so she can use killing edge and killer lance to get some crit kills. i've played a lot of roll my units (RMU) runs of fates and I have to say the absolute worst unit in the game is nyx and even the shitter units that no one remembers like dwyer or flora can be legitimately helpful with a bit of elbow grease. nyx is painfully unreliable with her hit rates and she needs constant speed support to double. her one saving grace is that she can consistently one round enemies around her join time with 1 tonic and maybe a dual strike partner.
she doesnt grow much from her starting level for a while because she starts at level 9 with honestly horrendous stats outside of magic. if you early promote her she will be an instant kill button and a fantastic pair up bot for magic units but she falls off like a sack of bricks regardless of if you train her or early promote her.
i've gotten so many nyx rolls over the years and tried many different things to make her useful but I think her best use case is just early promoting at like level 11 or a bit later so that you dont have to waste resources to make her useful. there arent many units in this game that can make use of the early promotion besides selena i guess and become as self sufficient as nyx, but fates is a buildfag grindfag game so this isnt saying much.

For this reason i think she is one of the least discussed fates units. less than gen2s less than izana or flora or rallyman etc.

I never used her much because if you aren’t going to have the accuracy to hit things like Orochi (whose speed still seriously cripples her) you should at least have the speed to double to compensate. That is correct, I've run Berserker chad Corrin before that was crit max'd and took advantage of the stat buffs, it's pretty fun.

FE8 is in a weird spot for that because of how short it is, but it's also pretty generous with exp. That problem within a relay context is that (especially the early) exp gets spread thin so growth projects end up reaching 20 a lot later than they should. Promoting before 20 in Elibe is kinda cringe though, especially in FE6, where a lot of my units hit 20 before I even get their promo item in the first place.

I agree with your general point, but I'm at the tail end of an FE12 H3 run right now, and I've found it very frustrating to try and feed weaker units because all my carries who would soften them up have like minimum 15-20 crit with 0 crit weapons, and that's before adding in supports. They hit those crits all the time, so it would be really nice to have a force-no-crit option.
