So, in my XIV life I never played melee jobs seriously, and right now I've decided to give RPR a go, and while practicing it on real encounters, I keep wondering how melee players don't go nuts with tanks sometimes turning the enemies slightly, but enough for you to miss a positional - or in a worst case scenario, turning a lot that you need to exhaust your True Norths just to adjust to that instead of a mechanic. After a while playing, it feels kinda stressful, and also not really knowing if I hit a positional or not because of the innate game's latency.

I know jobs have been dumbed down progressively, and removing positionals would feel like more salt to that wound and probably shouldn't happen as of today. But at the same time I also wonder, in a ideal situation where job complexity wasn't gone (or is somehow restored), if positionals couldn't give space to something more interesting and responsive.

In 1.0, before Godbert was on the Syndicate, his seat was occupied by Eolande Quiveron the owner of the ALC guild. She was a royalist, so Teledji and Fyrgeiss wanted her gone. They began giving her son a poison that would lock him in a coma for weeks at a time.

As an addendum, Eolande's son shows up in events around Ul'dah. He runs the children's ward in the hospital and featured in some Christmas events in ShB. Some people might remember that Lolorito treats him like family and moved heaven and earth to make sure he had a good Christmas.

I like positionals and I wish they hadn't removed so many of them from jobs like Monk and Dragoon.

A. It gave a good reason for melee to do more damage than magic/ranged, because they had to execute positionals well in order to reach those higher damage thresholds. Right now, melee tend to do more than the others for no real reason other than old game design paradigms.

B. It's not the end of the world if you miss some positionals here or there during a fight. Compared to something like letting a key cooldown drift that now messes up your entire rotation for the rest of the fight, if a boss moves and messes up your positional, you just lose a little potency and you'll be fine the next time.

C. They're really not that hard to do. I've played Monk since ARR, and the positionals were always just comfortable muscle memory once you'd put just a little bit of time into the job. Do they provide a small barrier of entry to new players trying out a job? Yes, but I don't think that's a bad thing. It's a simple execution mechanic that separates the players who main a job and those that only play once in a blue moon, how comfortable they are with the positions.

D. Optimizing positionals is a fun thing to do in raids. When you're doing Savage or Ultimate raids, you end up doing a lot of pulls where you're just auto piloting through the fight waiting to get to your prog point, where you then wipe because someone else made a mistake, and you start over again. Having something like rotation optimization, and positional/movement optimization gives you something to work on and continuously improve at even on those pulls just getting back to prog point, which makes the raiding experience as a whole stay fresher and more exciting for longer. Yes there are some bosses that have frustrating times where either mechanics, downtime, or tank movements mean you can't hit your positionals naturally.

It's a known issue for years that players that live outside Japan and didn't had the luck of living close to the server that they play cannot play the game as intended, that is being able to double weave and to single weave on 1.5 GCDs without clipping. It's completely ass to play this game on high ping without NoClippy/XivAlex. Sometimes even a single weave on 2s GCDs is not possible to do consistently without clipping.

The problem was even talked about with Yoshi-P by people that went to the media tour years ago, and there's also that famous thread on the official forum with a highly detailed explanation of the problem, why it happens and how it could be fixed. Still, to this day, years later, nothing has been done or even mentioned about fixing the problem.

Will it be forever like this? I really think that it's a pretty big problem that a big % of the players cannot play the game properly without the use of 3rd party tools to fix the game's netcode/animation lock problem.

At this point, as nothing has been done to this day, is there still any hopes left that it will be fixed? Or do you think that it's something that it's not even on their radar and it will never be addressed?

Just taking Calyx' words into account I feel like the Winterers are an organization dedicated to progressing mankind by any means necessary and each organization under them, ie Preservation, is seeking its own way towards that goal.

In preservation's case their idea of progress was to turn mankind into data, to preserve memory at the expense of all else. That gels with Calyx' words that he got hasty because the others' projects had progressed further. This is just me speculating but I feel Dawntrail purposefully moves the story in a more "futuristic" setting, very Cyberpunk and Noir-inspired and I think that will be a theme moving forward. Final Fantasy has always done a good job of blending futuristic elements with fantasy and I think, at this point, the more "classical" fantasy is well-worn territory whereas there is a ton of potential for them to move into the space opera/space fantasy genre, or even just having more modern ideas in general. If you think about it the general technology of the Ninth now existing on the Source would have HUGE consequences moving forward. I'd love to even see them incorporate aspects of that here and there on the Source. There's also a portal open to the Ninth and its abundance of Electrope. This inevitably leads to conflict... 8.0 could even be focused on the various nations figuring out how to deal with this new resource at least I think it should be discussed properly...

That all being said what do you all think of this being a potential direction for 14 to go in general?

To be clear, personally I've always enjoyed that Final Fantasy doesn't restrict itself to "classical fantasy" and is willing to play with various genres and I think this is just another example of that, but I'm curious what you all think. Also, just give us a lightsaber job already.

They're going more futuristic because they took a gamble with Dawntrail as it was specifically made to target a younger audience. But we all saw how that turned out. So now that the futuristic stuff is more established they can easily pivot for all the oldhead FFXIV fans and do something closer to FFVII. In hopes that'll bring a lot of people back.

I don't mind futuristic stuff in Final Fantasy, but I didn't really like how ... unfitting? all of the electrope and Alexandria stuff was. I get it's supposed to be foreign because it's a different share, but it feels like two entirely different games. This is my biggest complaint with electrope. It feels very lazy. "Oh, here's this mcguffin that does literally anything you want it to building wise."

There's nothing compelling or intriguing about it nor does it lead itself to interesting storytelling. The irony is Mass Effect has lore the size of an encyclopedia set explaining how its universe operates beyond what is reveal in the story itself. While far from perfect, it really sells you on the idea of how things came to be and makes it feel believable.

Ironically, electrope being too perfect goes along with the overarching problem I have with Tuliyollal as a whole. It's too damn perfect. All that aforementioned Mass Effect lore led to multiple conflicts; the Turian war still being felt in the game itself. What little conflict Alexandria brings isn't about electrope per se, but Endless.

Maybe if we got the Solution 9 side of the story much earlier, they could have made it work. But spending half the MSQ on a gym leader side quest made it difficult to be more expansive with the lore.

I dunno if 12 leans more heavily into one or the other, it blends high tech and fantasy pretty well because the tech is largely "science fantasy."

It helps that stuff tends to have embellishments, detailing, and "character" that reflects the setting (similar to FF10, honestly.) The Strahl's paint job and overall design/shape is very technological but fantastical at the same time. I'd say the worst offender is probably like, the Ifrit and some other Arcadian gunships. But for the most part they don't look blatantly sci-fi.

Compared to Alexandria's cybertrucks, people strolling around in techwear drinking starbucks, etc, and I get the point. "IT'S ANOTHER SHARD BRO IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE JARRING!" But like, the fact that this style and aesthetic isn't restricted purely to Alexandrian stuff is part of the issue. It's been seeping into glam sets and event items for years now, and it's only getting more prevalent since DT. Final Fantasy games that feature futuristic places or factions don't forego cohesion. Neither did XIV until Alexandria happened. It speaks of a serious lack of observation or maybe bad memory of the past games to dismiss complaints about Alexandria or super realistic modern/tech wear by just saying "FF was never medieval" or some such excuses. The games have always had very cohesive worlds, from 1 to 16. Even when they introduce literal alien planets into their plot the locations contrast just enough that you can believe they'd exist in that universe from a visual standpoint, but only in that universe.

And when they try to be closer to real world modern societies, the games are close to real world modern societies from the start to end... Like FF8. They're not XIVth century inspired high fantasy that suddenly drops characters dressed like twitch djs with baseball hats and Splatoon sneakers.

The problem with ffxiv is there is no constant to keep you playing unless you're a raider.
