well you see in 13 there's only, go forward, there's absolutely nothing else, no NPC has any interesting lore and there's not even a lot of them, no villages, no blitzball, no pokemon catching, no chocobo race challenge, no secret summon to unlock, the stele mission or whatever they were called are also linear and more will activate once you do a few and they get harder so you jjst do them in order, you cannot revisit 95% of locations, you cannot find new secret locations, no alphabet archeologues puzzles, hell no puzzles at all.

Realistically the game is like a 7/10 because of bullshit like long unskippable cutscenes before difficult boss battles and a wonky difficulty curve, but the story and world building are 10/10. It's easy to feel nostalgic about it, but playing it w as a frustrating experience at many times.

Every Final Fantasy from VI to X is a masterpiece. We didn't get another masterpiece until XIV, and we haven't had one since.

Too many party members to fit them all properly into the story and give them equal development and plot importance.

Would've been nice to get some of the more obvious interactions the game couldn't get around to doing because there just wasn't enough screentime to go around.

I just want to say that although x is pretty bad I was able to enjoy how weird it was enough to finish it. 13, I got to gran pulse, where the game "opens up" and was bored. Ended up dropping it after a couple of the hunts. Skill issue ig

I didn't think it was THAT bad, but I was pretty disappointed when I played it last year. Story is nothing special and the gameplay is just as mediocre as every other jrpg.

this, it seems silly now, but to 11 year old me, it blew my mind that pretty much the entire world was properly constructed with connected screens, instead of using an overworld to shortcut. Like when you look at the map for the airship you can always go, "oh yeah i remember that section"
