I think most people are just waiting for the game to be complete before jumping back in.

This is unironically a good thing. A vast, vast majority of fishing minigames in non-fishing games are fucking garbage and typically an iteration of "keep the bar on the icon" which is boring as fuck and wastes time and tends to make fishing horribly inefficient. Either make the process quick and painless or implement an actual fishing minigame where you're keeping in eye on the entire environment and watching how the fish moves and reacting to that. Anything in between is time-wasting nonsense which has been retread ten thousand times by ten thousand different games in almost the exact same fashion.

Never played the game but as an outsider looking in: It just looked like a furry gooner game without the actual smut. And hey, I'm not a prude, I've jacked countless times to Muffet and even a couple times to the rabbit from Zootopia.

I started liking the game less and less when he went away from weapon fighting to MMO style active abilities and he started size creeping the enemies to the point where true melee is impossible because you can't see shit because all the enemies are fuck huge and they have a ton of range. So all you can do is wait for the abilities to recharge, dash in, use them, dash out and repeat.
The gamenhad a lot of promise, but now it's just an average RPG with a very nice artstyle.

The earlier demos had a heavy focus on melee fighting with your sword or hammer while avoiding enemy attacks kind of like Zelda or Dark Souls and with bigger than the character, but still normal sized enemies about 2-3 times larger than the player.
But now the game has shifted kind of in the direction of mindlessly facerolling the 1-6 keys and stupidly oversized regular enemies with true melee and dodging being kinda useless, which is a major disappointment. It's still worth 10 dollars but I do not like the direction the game headed into.

I'm not completely against checkpoints in challenge platforming, so long as the course design isn't toned down to accommodate them, and the rewards are significantly greater for completion without.
Ideally there'd be a split hardmode instance without safety nets so experienced players could have their difficulty without being affected by patches catering to the less inclined. Waiting (to an extent) is a reflection of course knowledge, and there are glitch-free ways to clear faster.
