good thing the game came out on the gba and not the ds? but shame on them for releasing a game that "breaks" when played on hardware that... didn't exist at the time
also it doesn't actually break, that's a misunderstanding of the glitch
it merely slows down like 2000% and slowly starts speeding up (this is easy to test on an emulator, press the speedup button and the game gets fixed after 4 seconds or so) so because you're stuck on the white flash transition that happens after the battle it seems like you widescreen'd
literally all you have to do is wait a few minutes and the game goes back to normal, which yeah isn't ideal, but it's far from the "game-breaking bug" that prevents progress people call it
