I'm a thirty year old straight white man with a wife who played Undertale once in university and played Deltarune over the past few weekends for the first time. I am racist and transphobic, although not really homophobic as long as they act like a normal person.

I liked the music, and the gameplay in the boss fights was fun. The writing was fine but nothing mindblowing, but it feels like it's written with a dorky sincerity that I like. It does the whole random=funny thing, but not too often and it doesn't feel terribly forced. There were definitely parts that made me crack a smile.

The whole thing reminds me of weird kids from highschool, enjoying their weird insular friend group, and I kind of like that; there's something nice about kids just being unabashedly weird.

I like the variety between chapters, and I think there's a lot of variety on offer, both in terms of tone and gameplay. I think the biggest thing that makes things unfunny is repetition, and I like that they never repeat a joke like a lot of games that intend to be funny.

The game is "woke" but I stopped caring that fags are faggy well over a decade ago, I only dislike performative corporate wokeness, not tumblr trannies doing their tranny stuff

They really are a "love it or hate it" sort of games. I've watched a few playthroughs and the difference in reception was vast. Joel fell in love with the games since his humor is perfectly in line and he was able to vibe with the characters. Vechs hated Undertale because he autistically thought the game was judging him for "defending myself." Undertale is a fun game, word of warning its "dark route" is retarded and jives with the rest of the game's mood/ambience. Don't kill anyone. Deltarune isn't finished yet, so wait for it to actually have an end because it isn't episodically telling a particularly good piecemeal story. Although, it's macro plot appears to be pretty good.

In Marathon the protagonist and the player controlling him are butchers that slaughter their enemies by the hundreds with no regards to who their enemies are - possibly including their former allies - as long as it furthers their objective. The game even drops the hint that the protagonist is a reincarnation of humanity's famous legendary heroes, two of which (Achilles and Roland) were butchers just like them. The end goal to all of this? Obtaining an ability to continue the slaughter infinitely, in increasingly varied, difficult and innovative scenarios designed by the player(s). Neither any in-game narration nor out-of-game discourse has ever raised a single moral objection to any of this occurring.

The violence in DR inflicted by the protagonists has so far been always nonlethal except for the very obviously evil alternate route. That's what Sans and Flowey both do. Up until the end of genocide, Sans figured that trying to keep you happy with food, bad jokes, and a gentle nudge would be enough to get you in the right direction. Flowey triggers the entire true pacifist route as a second gambit to get the souls and on genocide he actively helps you with stuff like clearing puzzles for you.
