They're genuinely not good games. Easy, slow and boring on a normal playthrough, with sluggish movement and some of the most basic level design in any 2D platformer, but aggravating if you want to reach the true final bosses/endings without using a guide as so many of the essential collectables are hidden in obtuse locations or behind obtuse copy-ability/animal buddy barriers. Plus they have the same recycled story across all 3 games (evil chaos god brainwashes Kirby's friends, Kirby snaps friends out of it, Kirby defeats chaos god) and very generic worlds and enviornments besides a small number of exceptions like 64's post-apocalyptic ice planet.

The only redeeming qualities the Shimomura trilogy really has are very pleasant and cozy visuals, music and vibes, the shock-value of their tonal shift final bossfights if you're really still impressed by that type of thing, and 64's copy-ability fusions which are admittedly very cool, but on a gameplay level they're terrible, yes.

The multiple characters are cool and all and theres likely to be more unnannonced or added later (paid or otherwise) but am i the only one concerned about the rest of the content.
He only showed off like 5 race cources,and said city trial only has the one small map, and seemingly theres no other gamemodes. Also I never played the original but the ending of city trial seems lame as shit, you fight for 5 minutes building up powerups and equiptment just to play a 30 second minigame and that determines who wins? Surely it should at least be a couple of games in a row otherwise whats the point of all that prep time, and how the hell are you suppose to strategise what abilities you get when theres no display for what youve already got on you and shits just scattered about randomly. What about multiplayer? he brings up how the original has 4 player splitscreen and then says this game has 16 player online and 8 player lan, maybe he phrased it badly but it sounds to me like the game doesnt even have split screen anymore.
I think people are being blinded by nostalgia and character pandering that theyre missing how content lite this game actually is outside of the playable characters. I feel like every nintendo game released for the past decade keeps pulling this shit where they make these solid core mechanics and then use them for fuck all and im sick of it.

I was worried about it for the same reason, because Kirby was the only character would could fully interact with the game's systems in the original.
But I'm glad Sakurai decided to have his cake and eat it too b adding additional characters and giving them the ability to use copy abilities anyway.
Does it make sense for Meta Knight to absorb people through his glove? No, but it makes the game more fun, so let's just do it anyway.
I like that design philosophy.
