It's fine for the game's main mode to have some comp focus, but without more relaxed and casual side modes or alternate methods of play, nobody's barring an ever shrinking group will want to get invested enough to play.
More relaxed and casual play groups throw a wider net that can have more comp minded people get to the skill floor and realize they may enjoy comp. Without that mosy people, even the ones it may click with will get filtered after doing what feels like nothing every match.

TF2'S default clusterfuck of a tiny map with 32 players allows for both the sticky surfing, double donking monster demo and the first time player soldier that's clueless about rocket jumping to coexist in the same place and still have fun. Deadlock... not so much.
