The problem with the version on the right is that it's incomprehensible like what is so special about Juniper's dress that he wants to wear it? It implies it's about this dress in particular and maybe Juniper? The left version makes it obvious that it's a girl. I played the original on 3DS and saw the twist coming from miles away but if I played the Switch version I'd dismiss it after this exchange and then be upset because of how dumb Athena and Apollo are being in this scene.
I don't know which one is more accurate but left is better regardless.

They somehow took "魔を斬り払う剣" which is in brackets meaning it's a quote. And translated it differently on two separate occasions. Possibly more. This is a professional translation. People were paid to do this. Yet they can't even handle quotes correctly. This is a castlevania game they're not even very text dense.

The thing about the old translations is that they were legitimately attempting to localize. Now if localizing is good at all is a separate argument. Personally I don't think it is if it's subtitles/written, but acceptable if it's dubbing for voiced dialogue.
As far as subtitles are concerned, it would be a simple matter to do a proper translation and then just provide the English dialogue in subtitle form for those that prefer that. That'd be the ideal solution.

I was looking at No More Heroes 2 script that shows the original Japanese, a rough translation, and the finalized English script used in the game. The spoken English dialog adds more context and characterization. However for Japanese players, all the subtitles are taken straight from the original Japanese script that has none of the changes. So most of what's said won't completely match what the Japanese subtitles are showing. It reminds me a lot of how playing a game that's spoken in Japanese and the English subs won't line up what's said.
