There is no reason to not port to every platform. According to FF14 players, FF14 breaks the pattern that every single game on the planet follows in that instead of having 80-90% of it's playerbase on Steam, 90% of it is on console. Therefore, expanding to every console possible would be an enormous population boost.

It's pretty much the only game I play now on xbox, besides battlefield.

Let me guess, if you want to play on a different platform you have to re-buy the game and all expansions before it lets you log in with the account you already owned. It's not just a free launcher download for existing players.

It's the other way around. Most players are on console and more specifically on Playstation because that's literally the sole reason Sony fought against crossplay for as long as they did because they did not want other factions to "leech" off their playerbase.
That being said most of XIV's players are on PC because you basically can't ERP on console since you can't use tranny mods on console and ERPing with said mods is basically all there is left to do in XIV most of the time.

Think of Level 1 to 50 as the Season 1 of a long running anime which itself was a sequel to an obscure Anime that bomb. Trust me. ARR is basically the end of 1.0 but the start of a larger story. The end of ARR was done in a way that could be seen as the end of the game in case the game was a flop but they put bread crumbs in case they could continue. Then the ARR patches added a ton of lore that continues on in layer expansions. ARR is one of the weaker parts story wise but I recommend you keep going.

If you want to transfer over your account, it has to be a basic Square Enix account. You can't transfer your playstation version of an FFXIV account to a Switch version. And you can't transfer it back if you'd rather not play at 30 FPS in Dawntrail raids.

There's no real reason to cut PS4 support unless Sony does so first. XIV has done nothing since 3.0 that would warrant excluding PS4 hardware in terms of gameplay. The main game should have ended with Endwalker, and they they take a note from Guild Wars where the next expansion acts as a level reset where you can start fresh in that expac, and it's designed as such to scale you from lvl1 to the current cap within the contents of that one exapc.
